One song, two singers. · 7:06am Jan 12th, 2018
As I’ve stated before a lot of my stories get promoted from music. Entropy is inspired largely by Brave Shine from Fate/Stay Night: UBW. But, there are two versions of the English lyrics and those are what drive my story.
Twilights’s (SciTwi):
Now, it's only a dream, a single wish
But it's in these hands that take aim and miss
I fight it, but I can't wake up
I was given a vision of the end
But it's here in these hands that cannot mend
And the memory will haunt me for all eternity
How can I destroy my weakness? ‘Cause I wanna be stronger
I need to keep them all safe, but I lack the power
If we learn to wield our flaws, then the future will be ours
BRAVE SHINE
If you need a hand to hold, then STAY THE NIGHT
On the darkest of my days YOU SAVED MY LIFE
Far beyond the razor-edge of your blade
There lies a prayer that will surpass -
A dream I know will last throughout time
YOUR BRAVE SHINE
Never give into that ungodly night
What good is a star that has lost its light?
I watch as they fade one by one
We are on the same road, both you and I
Like two planets, we are bound to collide
And we can't see or break free beyond our destiny
I've fallen victim to my weakness, in my haste to be stronger
I somehow lost it all in my hopeless bid for power
Time will leave me, I don't mind - It can leave us both behind
BREAK DOWN
As the constellations fall and turn to dust
We collide and burn until the BREAKING DAWN
Far beyond the dream we carved together
The vow we've made, it's kept me strong
It's been here all along… here in my hands
How can I destroy my weakness?
‘Cause it's always in my way
If we learn to wield our flaws, then the future will be ours
And we can relight the stars
BRAVE SHINE
If you need a hand to hold, then STAY THE NIGHT
On the darkest of my days YOU SAVED MY LIFE
Far beyond those endless nights of heartache
There lies a prayer that will surpass -
A dream I know will last throughout time
MY BRAVE SHINE
And Sunset’s:
I'm stuck in a neverending dream
Where my wishes and hopes cannot be seen
And it's killin' me, but I can't let go
There's a sadness raining down on me
And the future is looking oh so bleak But I'm holdin' on, so dearly
To precious memories
To protect the ones I cherish I've got to be stronger
Don't wanna hesitate, I wanna be braver
So no matter what may come
I can face the morning sun
Brave Shine
You reached out to me
You let me see your light
On the night I suffered most you saved my life
Wielding all the things that we believe in
A test of faith I know I can win
I'll grant us love and peace for all time
Cuz you shine
Lookin' up into the dismal night
One by one, the stars all lost their light
Not a single trace of what they once were
Young souls watch their fates unfold
Not knowing what the future holds
They were wandering, so blindly
Throughout the endless night
When we lose the things we cherish
We see it as weakness
With hope dying out we start to lose purpose
So I pray, when I am gone
That my destiny lives on
Break Down
On that night the world went crashing to the ground
When I thought we'd lost all hope you came around
Cuz you knew deep down we had to move on
Believe until the break of dawn I feel us getting so much closer
To protect the ones I cherish I've just got to be strong
So I'll seek tomorrow out
And no matter what may come
I'll find the morning sun
Brave Shine
You reached out to me
You let me see your light
On the night I suffered most you saved my life
We found light beyond the blue horizon
So no more tears, farewell, I'm done
I'll grant us love and peace for all time Yeah, I'll shine
It’s amazing how one song can mean two different things for character interpretation. Theses are the driving forces for Sunset in this story. She wants to protect those she loves, even to the point of sacrifice as she showed in Chaos Theory. After all, this is a scene I had thought about using in Legacy before scrapping it:
I held the shield past the point of my mana reserves, sheer will keeping it up. I could feel it draining my life essence, but I screamed in defiance. I saw the shield waver, then collapse as the tip of my horn started to spark and flare.
Then the end of my horn shattered, and I blacked out from the pain.
So yeah.
Writing to music is pretty great, yup. More often than not I just use it for atmosphere or general mood, but occasionally I find a song where the vocals fit perfectly with story events.
...With this particular song, though, I've already got a mental association with a slightly different fic... Maybe it just goes well with pony in general. Who doesn't love protagonists who want to protect their friends?

That’s how I found that particular fiction and ammaspiring to make it to volume three by the end of the month. Halfway through Vol 2 at the moment.
But yeah, sunset’s version is based off that cover.
