Fading Suns Rescue · 3:16pm Dec 10th, 2017
This story is in trouble. It was a patreon supported piece, and that patron has gone away, meaning it cannot proceed. But not all hope is lost! You could adopt this story, becoming its patron and continuing it. Grab a tier from the patreon at https://www.patreon.com/davidsilver that includes story updates and get this story back on track. Originally, I had placed this story at 'someone else's universe', but I have since learned a lot about Fading Suns, so this does not have to be the case anymore. I will gladly continue it at the better rate.
Help bring holiday cheer to an entire universe of man meets ponies, man befriends ponies, man deals with galactic empire! Pledge at patreon and rescue this tale.
well crap.
i am hoping somepony picks this up.
This isn't good. Do you have any prewritten chapters?

That isn't how I write, usually. When it's time to write, I write. I lovingly craft my 2ksh chapter, then I am done. I do this the day that it is due.
i would even suggest that if there isn't "one" guy some can chip in and share the load... aka instead of 1 guy 10$ it's 10 guys 1$

I am alright with this.

sounds tricky to arrange

The problem with this is that Patreon has recently started charging transaction fees. $1 from 10 people isn’t the same as $10 from one person. People are fleeing Patreon like rats from a sinking ship.
My only problem is that it looks like story updates start at the $20 tier. Tell you what: I'll pledge the $10.

Well, shoot, now you're calling me out!
I'll put that towards Fading Suns. The story's not over yet!
4745840
They are, but the fee is on the patron's side, not my side. If you put in 1.00, it will cost you 1.30'sh and I will get 0.95.
Yes, it is dumb. No, there really aren't a lot of good alternatives.

Nuts... I just used my monthly to revive the Silver Saga... nuts nuts nuts...

I’ve been hearing of people moving to something called Maker Support. Of course, there’s also Hatreon.
4745891
... Would I want to be anywhere near Hatreon?
4745894
Because it’s an alternative that works. Distasteful though it may seem. unless you are exceptionally well informed it’s practically guaranteed that you’re already sending money to some corporation that does or funnels money towards something disgraceful. Hell, odds are you’d be causing less harm by funnelling money Hatreon’s way than you are by purchasing anything brand name from a supermarket; Hatreon has significantly less influence than most brand name companies.

Out of curiosity, I checked. Safeway, apparently, isn't a horrible place, and I tend to get store brand. Hirrah!

A good thing to do, when you can spare the time. Did you notice Cerberus Capital Management is a part owner? Were you aware of their despicable financial chicanery with regard to Steward Health Care? (Formerly Caritas Christi Health Care System, a Catholic non‐profit.)
You’d think that would be enough, wouldn’t you? There’s still the potential there, even if Safeway itself was owned by saints. A lot of different store brand products are actually made by the same place, they just package it differently. Does the company Safeway contracts to make its store brand products above board? Etc, etc., ad infinitum. …but outside of growing and/or hunting for your own food, what can ya do?

And none of it comes close to fundraising on a site created for the specific purpose of having a place to fundraise hate speech.

There is a part of me that really hopes that this is merely the start of a sprawling, multi-book, space opera.

Hate speech is worse than lost lives?
Methinks either your priorities are a touch skewed, you didn’t check the link I provided, or you failed to grasp why what CCM did is so reprehensible. Assuming you do value lives above the perils of hate speech… while turning a non‐profit series of hospitals into a for profit isn’t necessarily evil, artificially increasing said hospitals’ running costs by skimming exorbitant rent for land they previously owned is.
Still, even if you had mistakenly assumed financial chicanery was merely scummy you still deflected away from inadvertently supporting it. It would have been trivial to condemn both Hatreon and Safeway, yet you didn’t. Assuming that wasn’t just a knee‐jerk reaction… be honest; either admit you’re like most people and the mere convenience that monolithic corporations offer outweighs the effort vetting them to avoid inadvertently supporting bad actors — be they the corporation itself, who id does business with, or its owners — or you’re afraid that a significant percentage of your patrons lack the nuance to tell the difference between working with the Devil and working for him. Hatreon itself doesn’t fund hate speech, it facilitates others funding it.
N.B.: It’s not a difference without a distinction; think of it as the difference between Swiss Banks dealing with Nazi gold and actually enlisting in the Waffen‐SS.
More seriously, I understand the desire to avoid Hatreon — even if you were willing to work with the devil it’s still barely a step above collaborating with him — but with the advent of Maker Support it’s not like you’re stuck between an abusive relationship with Patreon or switching to Hatreon. Still, it exists, and with only two alternatives I felt it prudent to list them both.
