    The Knife’s Edge

The other day I got a message from ZanarNaryon telling me they had created a TVTropes page for To Serve In Hell. Now, TVTropes can be a dangerous place to start reading, unless you have a few hours to spend getting lost in it. But if you want to check it out, please

Not with a bang, but a whimper

    Hey friends.

I didn’t used to believe in writer’s block as such. I always thought the phenomenon was a manifestation of something else in a person’s life. I also thought the cure for it was just to sit down and write any garbage you can. Editing should never mix with drafting, and if you can get yourself to stop editing, you’ll achieve more and better drafting—which can then be edited.

Ping 2: Live and In Person

Almost exactly 2.5 years ago, my family and I bought tickets to Whinny City Pony Con 2020. Of course there was no such con, at least not in a physical capacity. But good egg that he is, Charlie Worthley (con organizer extraordinaire) has made it effortless to transfer our tickets from that long-ago time to right now, despite all that’s transpired between.

    I live.

    Time's gotten away from me.

2020 got weird. My 2021 started with an honest effort to get back to normal. But after I started getting treated for depression, I began to see more and more ways to improve things in my daily and family life that hadn't fit together very well in years. Including some of the core issues that had pointed me in the direction of MLP in the first place.

    Artistic Expression

It's been too long. Things are great. Really, really great. Not so much for writing, but for different modes of expression and life.

NaNoWriMo week 1 wrap-up: Dank Memes, Dragonauts, and Dark Rarity · 4:42am Nov 9th, 2017

Evening, folks! I'm now a week into working on To Serve In Hell as part of NaNoWriMo. I'm a bit behind on target wordcount by date, but I feel good about what's been written thus far. Good enough in fact to bust out this old clunker:

Something something great again

Make no mistake friends: IT IS HAPPENING. I feel like this is the push I've been trying to line up all year. I've started with Rarity's arc of To Serve In Hell and thus far I'm driving it full throttle down the moonlit highway to Tartarus, running roughshod over my own extended metaphors along the way. And what manner of speed-demon-ry would be complete without representation of the heavier metals? Here's track 1 of the album that I keep coming back to when I sit down for writing time:

Don't be put off by the 10 or so seconds of talking about the song that the lead guitarist does at the beginning of this version; the album version has a longer atmospheric opener with sounds of thunder that this version doesn't make you sit through

I've spent most of 2017 feeling frustrated about my own lack of progress on To Serve In Hell, and I imagine that readers might feel something similar. Ultimately I still don't have a lot to show at this point. But what I do have is excitement! The story has always been exciting to me, but now that excitement is translating more quickly and fully into progress. Granted, it's still early in the month, and it'll take time to edit and finish things up regardless. But I'm feeling good, and slinging horsewords, and...

...oh yeah, I gotta get back to that. :rainbowdetermined2:

Yes, I can dig it.

I actually finish a story and you're back on To Serve in Hell. To Serve in Hell... *cracks open a cold one*

Well then I wanna be right here.

Agreed, apocalyptic rockabilly seems appropriate for such an occasion!

On a different note. It looks like Looking For Trouble made it to Equestria Daily. Congratulations!

Thank you sir, and especially for your help in getting it there. :moustache:
