From the same animator/speech synthesist who brought us The Tax Breaks (Twilight), we have an adaptation of 8686’s Free Hugs! Let’s look at the economic ramifications.

Friendship is Card Games: Trixie and the Razzle-Dazzle Ruse

We return to the pony novels this week, and hopefully a better showing from the titular mare. Last time we saw Trixie in one of these, G. M. Berrow was channeling the fandom circa 2011 and making her and Gilda the designated antagonists of the piece. Let’s see what she’s up to this time.

Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

    Swan Song

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Human Gaiety 2: Anthropic Boogaloo · 3:15pm Nov 5th, 2017

Just an FYI, three more shorts have gone up on Discovery Family's site. There will be forty-five of them in total, so I'm going to let them keep accumulating for a bit more before making plans for review blogs. This one will be interesting. Five seems too few and nine too many, so I'm not yet sure what I'll do.

Also, for those looking for this batch, be advised that one of them is the Timberlight short.

Mini-reactions and links to the videos follow, as do potential spoilers:

The Finals Countdown: Looks like we're getting some music videos. This one has a nice framing device to it, along with an echo of "Testing Testing 1-2-3." I do love how Sunset knows she has the exam in the bag throughout. She's basically just humoring Twilight. Also, Pinkie's personalized review with flash balloons is amazing.

Overpowered: Some very interesting data here. If one of the girls overuses her powers, it triggers a harmonious resonance cascade, making all of their powers intensify to uncontrollable levels. It acts as a warning system, but I can't help but wonder what will happen if they press on regardless. Sevenfold corruption? Definite fic idea there.

Also, the design on human Zephyr Breeze is skin-crawlingly perfect.

Star Crossed: If nothing else, I can take comfort in the fact that the universe itself seems to hate Timberlight as much as I do. (Though I have to admit that they were kind of cute in this.) Also, human Star Swirl was apparently that world's Copernicus, Galileo, or similar astronomical icon. Also also, Fluttershy can apparently train fireflies in formation flying. Neat.

Agreed on all counts on all reviews.

So we now have a canon TimberLight ship? Oy, how many people are going to gag at that? I honestly don't care that much, but I know that a bunch of other people do...

I'm glad we're getting more TimberLight I always felt FlashLight could have worked if given more time to develop.

Appreciate the heads up. Fun little clips. Question. Did I spot Lily from "Pinkie Sitting" in "Star Crossed?"

If five is too few and nine too many, the most sensible thing is probably 4 sixes and 3 sevens

Star Crossed: If nothing else, I can take comfort in the fact that the universe itself seems to hate Timberlight as much as I do.

Well, “Star Crossed” does mean “doomed,” so...

You really shouldn't laugh at Timber's unfunny jokes, Twilight, it will only encourage him. Please consult Cadance for your introductory class in boyfriend house-training.

It will come as no surprise what I found to be the most interesting parts of these shorts. I wonder how this Star Swirl vanished without a trace :derpytongue2:

I liked Overpowered the best out of all the new shorts, mostly because of the fanfic possibilities. It's not hard to imagine Applejack, Rarity, Twilight, or Pinkie overdoing their powers if their workloads pile up. Also, I got a kick out of seeing human Zephyr Breeze, although I have no idea what the age difference is supposed to be between him and Fluttershy.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but I love the new outfits. Especially Sunset's and AJ's, but I'm a little biased.

I am so confused about how many of these shorts there are. For some reason the total number is oddly intimidating and as a result I have watched all of one of them.

I dislike TimberLight but I love seeing details of the local observatory, so I'm mixed. That is one fancy local observatory; some serious Griffith Park going on in that town.

Overpowered

Over-what-ed? :D

I liked Overpowered the best for the interesting implications about their powers (if slightly horrifying - can anyone say "positive feedback"?), plus an actual decent attempt to nerf the geodes so they don't keep abusing them. And also, Sunset's telepathic incontinence was also done really well; creepy to witness, and you can see it's been bothering her for a while.

I also liked seeing Sunset and Twilight just... playing chess. It's just such a natural thing for them to do as friends.

The first one was really fun, especially Sunset just humoring Twilight and trouncing her at chess for their study session. Looks like she's doing some kind of repair work in her free time, but we know she walks to school, so it probably isn't a car or motorcycle. I wonder what it is?

The second short kind of bugs me for two reasons. First, the more they use their magic the more powerful it gets? Where is the power coming from then. Second, why the heck didn't Sunset just take off her amulet? Sceezy Zephyr was hilarious though, as was Fluttershy being embarrassed about him. Did he have amoeba on his jacket?

Timberlight is kind of cute, I was just relieved when Fluttershy said "I got something for your big night, just in case!" It was fireflies and not....something else.
