🐞🐞Miraculous Ladybug S2E2: "Despair Bear" (SPOILERS)🐞🐞 · 10:53am Oct 25th, 2017

I couldn't resist...this'll be the last episode I watch ahead of the Netflix release, promise! :twilightsheepish:

Tom Dupain is giving Marinette's class a baking lesson. Chloe, determined to be a brat as usual, calls the fire department to report a fire. While Marinette is taking a bowl of filling to the school cafeteria fridge, the fire alarm goes off, and the school evacuates.

Later, Director Damocles attempts to force the prankster to confess. Chloe tries to blame Marinette, but Marinette has witnesses. Marinette wants to blame Chloe, but Alya and Adrien stop her because she has no proof. Since nobody confesses, Director Damocles punishes the entire school--except Chloe, who threatens to call the mayor.

While everyone is hard at work cleaning every inch of the school, Chloe sits around playing on her phone and mocking them. Adrien, finally fed up with her, calls her out on her attitude. He tells her that until she can learn to be nice to people, they're no longer friends.

Distraught and determined to win Adrien's friendship back, Chloe turns to her butler and ersatz life coach, who tries to guide her, with the help of an old teddy bear, through basic acts of human decency. Step one: Throw a party for her classmates.

Hawk Moth, learning Chloe is hosting a party, prepares an Akuma and sends it on its way to Le Grand Paris, confident that Chloe will piss somebody off enough for the Akuma to do its thing.

At the party, Chloe fakes being nice to the best of her abilities, with constant needling from her butler. Every time she almost slips up, she makes up for it, leading to an amusing running gag of the Akuma slipping away from near-miss victims and Hawk Moth getting more and more frustrated.

Despite her best efforts, seeing Adrien dancing with Marinette and holding her close is the last straw for Chloe, and she takes an entire night's suppressed bitchiness out on her butler, chewing him out and firing him. This gives Hawk Moth what he was looking for, and Despair Bear is born: an Akumatized teddy bear, piloted by a miniature evil butler, who runs around clinging to people and making them act bad.

Chat Noir gets turned evil again (damn, already?!) and Chloe helps Ladybug beat the Akuma. Chloe hires her butler back and gets to be friends with Adrien again, and Adrien and Marinette come a little closer to each other.

I love this episode for the running gag of Hawk Moth getting frustrated over Chloe sabotaging his scheme. And for Hawk Moth commenting on Chloe's bitchiness.

Despair

Des-bear

It is a little amusing that Hawk Moth knows Chloe is responsible for most of his Akuma victims. Even the Big Bad of the series is aware of how much of a bitch she is.

Replace the words kyles mom with Chloe

I have to say, I enjoy this episode because it basically becomes one giant "Chloe punishment" episode? I mean, Adrian finally put his foot down with her, the butler got to boss her around with her own teddy bear and she got forced to KISS Martinete! And throughout the party she keeps unknowingly preventing the Akuma from evilising someone. And then when it happens she ends up harassed by the possessed party-goers. That's just hilarious!

Plus when she does finally do something selfless, it doesn't feel too forced, more of a "spur-of-the-moment" kind of thing.

She's... a work in progress.... a LONG work in progress...

I know right!? I actually paused the video to laugh for a few minutes at this one little fact.

I'm pretty sure this episode was intended to lay the groundwork for Honeybee.

Hopefully... considering the amount of fan backlash that might have surfaced from the leaks, then they gotta work to make sure it feels like she earned it.

I'm also getting annoyed that Chat Noir always seems to become the victim of turning evil by some of the villains. I know it's better him than Ladybug since she's the only one who can capture an akuma and purify it along with turning everything back to normal. But i just wish Chat Noir wasn't turned evil so much, because that leaves Ladybug to do all the hard work herself

When is the Netflix release anyway.

It was enjoyable to see Chloe get some much need comeuppance, but I have ZERO SHAME in giggling like a child with the name 'Despair Bear'. Makes me think of... another bear relating to that title. Puhuhuhuhuhu~

Thanks i've been wait for that.

I've gotta say, I can understand why Chloe went off on the butler. While he was being subtle, it was fine. But then he pulled the bear out in the middle of the party in front of all her classmates. She had good reason to be mad.

Honestly? I agree. He was way out of line at the end there.

I'm almost sure the akumatization was a matter of who was holding the bear. The butler was upset because he was fired, and Chloe was furious because he pretty much single handedly ruined her reputation. Honestly, if Chloe had something on her that could be used for the akumatization, she probably would have been Hawkmoth's first pick.
