The eclipse has begun.

AS IT WAS FORETOLD.

Totality will happen here in about an hour.

Time to go out and stare at the sun! (With powerful eclipse glasses on)

PS. They sent out a warning on everyone's phone not to directly stare at the sun without eclipse glasses on. Note that if you are in the path of totality, you can safely look up even without eclipse glasses when it is at totality, but you need glasses for when the sun isn't completely behind the Moon.

EDIT: If you the faint sound of voices chanting "Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!" off in the distance and the sky burns red, pay it no mind. You're totally safe. :duck:

The total eclipse really IS spectacular, though. Until you get almost to totality, you can't actually really see any difference in the sky without the glasses, but it gets noticeably darker. However, as the sun finally vanishes behind the Moon, you can, just for a moment, see the last sliver of the sun disappear behind a black body. And then it is very pretty when the Moon is sitting in front of the Sun - very striking, and also the only time when it is really obvious exactly what is going on without equipment. And then the Sun comes out from behind the Moon, and there's a brilliant point of light that slowly expands, and then you can't see the blackness in front of the Sun anymore without the glasses.

Hail Moonbutt.:pinkiehappy:

the question is: how many people are going to write fics titled "Totality" now and after said eclipse?

can't blame them, it'd make a pretty badass title.

I cannot stop hearing the word "Totality" in a Mortal Kombat voice when I see it.

I got a great viewing of the totality a bit south in Fairfield. It really was an impressive and surreal sight.

4643441This is Georg, and I approve this message. Sometimes, you just need to check the fuse, though.

Yeah, the wife and I took an hour's trip to get into the 'total' section of this eclipse. She's been planning it for years, since this one falls on her birthday. So there we are, out in the Marysville Wal-mart parking lot, and I go inside to buy her a cake and ice cream :pinkiehappy:

Nice!

You enjoy the eclipse?

I have to say, watching the eclipse gave me a much better appreciation for what they actually look like, and what it is you see in the photographs.

4643712 Yep. Totality was awesome. Plus the wife had special sun-looking A) Glasses, B) binoculars C) forward projection box projecting thingie D) A full sun viewing telescope that cost a mint and didn't work.

I'll have to post the pictures.

Didn't get the totality where I live, but I was able to see the moon slide gently across the sun. At my workplace, we had old, old, old floppy disks that were basically just film, and they acted as a fairly decent sun goggles if you held them right. At the least, nobody went blind!

If you the faint sound of voices chanting "Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!" off in the distance and the sky burns red, pay it no mind. You're totally safe. :duck:

I didn't hear that, but I did hear "The Death Star will be in firing range in five minutes...":trollestia:

One got about a minute's worth of totality here. Still neat to watch.
