A comment from a while back has stuck with me. It was a critiscm directed towards a bit of fluff I had written that spoke negatively towards both characterisation and story length.
So, i turned it over in my head last night, wondering...
How do you all feel? Should I work for longer chapters and stories overall? And do I seem to miss out on key character traits?
I'm just a curious worried kitty right now.
Race You is listed as it is the closest bit of fluf on here that equates. Not meant to be the example in question.
Longer stories and chapter lengths don't necessarily equate to the content inside. More can be done with longer stories, but that doesn't automatically make it better. I've read fics that tripled in size of Race You that fell flat.
I haven't read every single thing you've done, but honestly, your characterization of both Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy was impressive to me. And I hold Flutterdash up to a high standard, so I'm not just saying that. I even remember thinking to myself that I surprisingly got as much enjoyment out of Race You as another Flutterdash fic that took me two days to finish reading.
Overall, I think you're doing just fine. I wouldn't work to expand stories just for the sake of it. If you are certain there are things to improve upon, then that's another story.

I bought into the words of Henry David Thoreau when I started writing: Our lives are frittered away by detail...simplify simpify. Somtimes I wonder if I did so a little too much.
i think you are doing an awesome job so keep up the good work and dont worry you silly kitty
Allykitty, no matter where you are in the world, no matter what you do, there are always going to be people who think poorly of your creative work. But there are also people who praise it; so whenever you get a negative review or comment and you feel down because of it, look to the positive ones and remember that there are readers out there that you have made happy with your stories and your choice of writing style.
You should choose to change only when you want to, not because someone else is telling you you should.
