Be still, sad heart! and cease repining; Behind the clouds is the sun still shining.

You probably know how this sort of thing goes. There you are, mowing your grass on a day that can't decide whether to shine or drizzle on you, a few years and counting into your non-writing streak. Whatever thoughts you're having are at the expense of your lawnmower picking a fight with every passing tuffet and losing.

    Stellarum voces

A jolly update for folk who like either fanfic readings or The Motion of the Stars, and a downright rapturous one for folk who like both. My name is R has brought their vocal talent to bear on the story, complete with images and background music to help

    On Brains

A nice breezy dialogue to ease in with:

CARABAS’ COMMON SENSE: So, a hypothetical conservation for you.
CARABAS: Two lines in and we’ve already got fictional discourse nested in the initial fictional discourse. Gosh, I must just love to live dangerously.

All these open tabs weren't here a second ago. Oh dear. · 9:20pm Jul 12th, 2017

As nice people doing nice things out of the intrinsic niceness of their hearts is always a nice thing to highlight — not least when it's a nice thing done on my behalf — I'd like to give Frustration in Excelsis all due kudos for lashing together a TV Tropes page for the Palaververse!

This was a lovely surprise to be linked to last night, at the end of what had been a busy day spent either working or judging stories, and undoubtedly involved more trawling through and categorisation of my endless blithering than any human being should be obliged to tolerate. Much obliged to Frustration for it.

Have a click through and appreciate their good work. Just mind the inevitable tab explosion, though. And set up search parties in advance if you fail to emerge. It's a self-inflicted black hole, that site.

Haha good job losing your soul Carabas.

TV Tropes is a Changeling plot to make us docile for harvesting.

*flashbacks to nights before exams spent circling on TVTropes*

*gasp*
An xkcd reference?

If that particular thing hadn't been forfeit years ago, I doubt TV Tropes would be doing it any additional favours.

Degrees are for prats. A working knowledge of genre conventions is all one really needs.

It's so very, very referenceable! :pinkiehappy:

Nice. I'll give it a look when I get a chance and see if I have anything worth adding to it.

Please do! I'm sure your contributions would be an excellent asset. Or form the core of a new online Necronomicon. Whichever you prefer; I shan't dictate.

So, are Noblesse and other stories part of the Palaververse as well? Or not? ... Maybe update each relevant story with a note saying so, like how Estee does with (her?) Triptych Continuum?

It was my genuine pleasure! I was actually kinda surprised the Palaververse didn't have a page already, to be honest. Hope you didn't get sucked too far down that digital black hole cunningly disguised as a web site.

Actually, I've been meaning to ask -- is there a way to tell which stories are "official" Palaververse canon and which aren't? It's why I kept the side stories list a bit sparse -- I wasn't entirely sure which stories counted and which didn't.

Noblesse and sundry others are part of the Palaververse, yep, though there are a few grey areas and some that aren't. Maybe a 'Palaververse-compliant' tag wouldn't be a bad idea to introduce, retroactively and going forward.

trapped somewhere in the middle of the Hair Tropes page, please send help

Sans me introducing anything so sensible as a Palaververse tag, I'd say that the current list of Palaververse-compliant and worth-including stories are the ones you've chosen, as well as The End of the Day, The Strangest of These, Winterheart, Noblesse, The Commander's Shilling, and Mr Stripes Versus A Cthonic Horror. The White Horse is in a bit of a grey area, as it was intended to be part of the 'verse, and its events are still bound up with the 'verse's history of Equestria, but its timeline was botched when writing, and one particular character central to proceedings was retconned out. The others are too out-of-date, too alternate-universey, or too addled by hiatus to be worth including, I reckon.

Second Sun is also Palaververse compliant, beg pardon. Terrible to have a bawdy Celestia slip the mind like that. :twilightsheepish:

Ah, TV Tropes. That thrice-cursed website that torments you by making you walk its endless labyrinthine hallways without end. You try desperately to find a way out, but it is lost in the darkness of the void. The words on the walls cause you to laugh hysterically. The sounds of your insanity echoes throughout its dark pathways, but no one can hear you. You are forever alone, trapped within the madness of countless storytelling devices.

That website just brainwashes you into opening up hundreds of tabs. Someday, I will crash my phone with TV Tropes alone. It is nice to see someone creating a trope for your verse. I had a delightful time reading through it.

H.P. Lovecraft's fiction was quite right about the existence of impossibly complex, sanity-tearing horrors. It just didn't anticipate we'd make them all by ourselves.
