Review #67 - Existance, Storm

Well, I shall continue with this odd, secret pattern I have started... I'm not gonna tell you what it is unless you ask, though. Anyway, promotion time!
-The Dragon's Riddle by horizon - An amazingly well-written fic for only being 1k words.
-Twilight Sparkle is Vexed by Uranus by Zef - Umm, what? Just... what?

As always, I will put down my recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

Existance by Cherry delight
(Dark, Mystery, Sad, Slice of Life, Tragedy)
She sits in her prison. She knows not why she is there but she survives each moment ripping out part of her. She sits and waits her answer only given by someone who wants her to survive but someone who put her there in the first place.

Review
This one is more of a dark fic than any of the other options, though there is quite the amount of slice of life. The pony in the cell, whose identity you will discover eventually, has an odd characterization. Her memory is fading and she is left to think about life, which leaves the impression of one who is hopeless. A certain other mare in this fic, who will also not be named, does not seem at all like what she should. To put it in the best words I can, she is over the top emotional. The mare in prison works pretty well for the plot, but the other mare seems to subtract from it. Were it me writing this one, I would have expanded during the prison scene, and cut out the ending.

The greatest weakness of this ties for a lot of things. The two most notable, however, are the pacing, which feels a bit rushed, and it definitely could have used more filler in the beginning, and the characterization of the second-main-character mare. You will know if you read it.

Recommendation: Not Recommended. (Between the "bleh" characterization, the pacing issues, and the couple grammatical mistakes, you won't be able to find much meaning in this fic. Not that you can't, but it will be harder than most because those issues overshadow what it has.)

A storm of epic proportions sweeps over Equestria, leaving the ponies of Ponyville to try to piece their lives back together.

Review
About time I got to this thing... seriously, this is one of the oldest I've had on my lists. Anyway, this one is a very slice of life-y fic, with quite a bit of sadness, and some tragedy along with it. Let's start with Rainbow Dash, as she is one of the main characters. She is, quite a bit like the Season 5/6 Rainbow, but with obvious flaws, loyalty, and determination to help others. This is a great version of her character, though I can say with honesty it is not the best I have seen. Next comes Twilight. Twilight is a mix between the Season 5/6 version of herself, that's all I have to say about that. The next big character is Rarity, and she is quite accurate to how I would imagine her acting in this situation, which is to say she puts the needs of others above her caring for the replaceable objects she owns.

The greatest weakness of this one would have to be the pacing. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful fic, but the slice of life aspect of it makes the story seem dull, or bland, or 5k words longer than it is... one of those three.

Recommendation: Worth Reading. (Despite the weakness, it is a really well-written fic. Nice characterization, really grips you as you read it, it just feels extremely long).
