Review #59 - The Cutie Mark Crusader Boys, Overlooked, Hoardsmiths · 4:40am Feb 21st, 2017

So, yeah... I'm a gonna do three more today, ok? Here they are:

The Cutie Mark Crusader Boys by YuGiOh Brony
Overlooked by Scyphi
Hoarsmiths by Skywriter

As always, I will put my down recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

The Cutie Mark Crusader Boys by YuGiOh Brony
(Comedy, Random)
(First Chapter Only) - Shining Spoon, an orange earth pony colt Has moved to Ponyville from Manehattan. He soon Meets up with the CMC, Read the story to find out what happened.

This is Incomplete... but it was requested that I review it by the author

Review
This one is more of a slice of life story than anything else, though there is a little bit of "smile on the inside" type of comedy. Shining Spoon, the main character, seems like, well, a colt. I'm not entirely sure how to describe him beyond that. Anyway, the CMCs are actually pretty close to the show CMCs in terms of character, good job author. Bright Star, the main-er character in the second chapter, is a little too, perfect. Not a Gary Stu level, but still up there. I do wish that there were more male CMC fics, if anyone knows of any, please link in the comments. However, I had nearly forgotten what actually happened in this one, and I am not entirely sure why... especially with how easily I remembered that this one existed.

The greatest weakness for this one has to be the writing quality. Not only are some of the characters "blah", but it also has several errors within it. If you read this, you will definitely notice these.

Recommendation: Not Recommended / Intermediate. (If you read the weakness portion you will know why.)

Overlooked by Scyphi
(Comedy, Slice of Life)
The changelings are content with their recent change, but they're all still working to adjust to the full scope of these changes. Thorax, however, finds there was one personal change he's somehow overlooked.

Review
This one is much more of a slice of life story than a comedy, and the comedy is not much more than the occasional smile on the inside until the end. Spike in this one is a much better Spike than the show version, which pretty much means he is an actual character rather than an annoying plot device/ comedy. Thorax is close to the show version, but again, he seems to have more character than he does in the show. Man, you will live at least a week remembering this one, it is quite nice with characters, and even has a nice twist at the end.

I think the greatest weakness of this one is you go in hoping for comedy, and what you get is more of a slice of life fic, which leaves it feeling a little boring. Yes, that is actually the greatest weakness... fight me.

Recommendation: Recommended. (Because it is actually good except for that one weakness.)

Hoardsmiths by Skywriter
(Slice of Life)
They are the Hoardsmiths. And they are completely insane.

Review
So, this one is most definitely a slice of life story. I have no clue how to talk about this one... which means I will have to do something else:
This pacing in this one is great, even though it is short, at only 2.6k words. It does a really good job of conveying its ideas and really leaves one with a lasting impact after reading it. It does a great job of using literary devices, which is the cause of the impact it leaves on the reader. I'm not so sure about you guys, but for me, it was about how the things of beauty that you create may not always be appreciated or noticed, but they are still beautiful and you should still take pride in them.

The greatest weakness of this one would have to be how far you have to immerse yourself in the story to be able to put what it means to you into words.

Recommendation: Recommended. (Because I want you to have an opportunity to decide what it is about yourself, I have the feeling it has different meanings to different people.)

Meh I'll take what I can get.

Hoardsmiths is a treasure, and one where you can easily miss the point, because I did, after all the first time through.

As a hint? The best name for the dragon is Hasbro, and that platinum sculpture it mentions? The original piece may be lost, but the craftsponies weren't satisfied. They decided to make their own miniature cave, and named it Them's Fightin' Herds
