Weekly Gaming Blog · 9:25pm Dec 9th, 2016

Welcome to my Weekly Gaming Blog!

This week's coverage: Letter Quest Remastered, World of Final Fantasy, Pokemon Shuffle, and Pokemon Sun.

Newly acquired games this week:
A Boy and his Blob (PS4)
Invisible Inc. (PS4)
Stories: Path of Destinies (PS4)
Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops (PS4)
World of Final Fantasy (PS4)

World of Final Fantasy

This game is very the-silly.

So the-far I've only the-played up to the massive exposition the-dump at Cornelia Castle. I'll be a bit the-slow getting into this because I have the-stuff expiring on Netflix that's going to the-eat up most of my non-writing the-time for a bit, but I'm in no the-rush.

For those of the-you who haven't really the-looked into this one, WoFF is the-basically Kingdom Hearts - Disney + Pokemon. You the-play as twins Lann (clueless idiot who is the-stupid) and Reynn (incredibly cute the-chick) who have no the-memories and apparently once commanded huge the-armies of 'Mirages' (Pokefied Final Fantasy monsters) in a chibified world called Grymoire.

WoFF is full of silly, colorful the-characters, chibified the-versions of popular FF characters, and a monster-catching-and-raising the-game involving creatures like Chocobos, Behemoths, and so the-forth. I'm looking the-forward to getting deeper into this game once I've the-gotten some writing and Netflix the-stuff out of the way.

Letter Quest Remastered

Beat the game on Monday morning. All yellow stars and all Crystal Stars collected. I'm one trophy short of being completely done with this one.

Moth's Thoughts:
- Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy. In Pokemon X, I got incredibly OCD with my box names, constantly renaming the boxes to reflect the alphabetical filing system I use for my Pokemon. This meant I was constantly adjusting box names as Pokemon shifted into higher or lower boxes as I moved them around. While I'm still doing the alphabetical filing thing, this time around I'm not going through all that; I'm just naming my boxes "Collection 1", "Collection 2", etc.
-- I've also learned to put my "Freshly Caught" box to the left of Box 1 so I don't have to keep moving it to the right. :facehoof:
--- For the record, my present named boxes: "Collection 1", "Collection 2", "Freshly Caught", "Trade Stock", "Extras", and "Eevee Ranch".
- I get the feeling the only reason GameFreak added post-battle care to Pokemon Refresh is to trick gamers into using it for any reason other than evolving Sylveon.
- GameFreak FINALLY fixed the Day Care! It no longer levels up Pokemon left there too long and risks replacing moves you didn't want replaced! The "Nursery" as it's called now does exactly the one thing players have EVER used it for: it makes baby Pokemon.
- It occurs to me that GameFreak's reach goal for the very first Global Event in Global Link is a bit of a stretch for the time frame they gave. According to the event info, the deadline is 12/12. The goal is 100 million Pokemon. As of 5pm US Central Time on 12/6, they hadn't even broken 8 million. I think it's barely up to 11 million at last check?

Uh...was all the-adding of an extra the in that first the-segment something from the-game?

4334135 Look up some the-clips and the-see for yourself. :scootangel:

Oh my...well you're busy! XD

I aways manage to find people that are better at me than Pokemon! Lol!

I ended up catching one Eevee and a Ditto. I then made heavy use of the Nursery. This is par for the course when I get Eevees, as the poor female I caught in Platinum can attest.

I did nickname them all prior to evolution. I caught Darwin, then hatched Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, Thymine, Uracil, Sugar, and Phosphate.

I like naming themes. :twilightsheepish:

Hey, I played Tiny Troopers 1 & 2 on my phone not too long ago.:derpyderp2:

- I get the feeling the only reason GameFreak added post-battle care to Pokemon Refresh is to trick gamers into using it for any reason other than evolving Sylveon.

Well, you can use it to cure status conditions to save money on Full Heals and such (though that's kind of a moot point thanks to Poke Centers and how easy it is to grow Berries this time around), and any Pokemon with at least 2 Affection Hearts will receive boosted Exp. I realize you may not want to bother with it due to your systematic way of catching 'em all,* but further Affection Hearts increase your 'mons main game battle performance: 3 Hearts might let them survive a KO with 1 HP left, 4 Hearts might let them dodge even 100 accuracy move and cure their own status conditions at the end of a turn, and 5 Hearts boosts their Critical Hit rate a little. (Aside from the post-battle care, it works almost exactly like Amie, the only differences being the removal of mini-games and changing from Poke Puffs to Poke Beans [ProTip: Rainbow Poke Beans can max out affection very quickly.])

*Oh, you should probably know that their are some Pokemon that only appear in SOS battles, a couple of them even weather-dependent (either overworld weather or weather your pokemon produce themselves), so you can't just walk around hoping to encounter them. :unsuresweetie: Sableye only appear in SOS battles when Carbink call for help in Ten Carat Hill or Vast Poni Canyon, Mareanie only appear in SOS battles when Corsola call for help (and Corsola is kind of a pain in the ass to encounter in the first place) in Melemele Sea or Route 9, Castform only appear in just about any kind of weather-related SOS battle, Goomy only appear in Lush Jungle and Route 17 when it's raining, and Gabite only appear in Haina Desert during a sandstorm, and Vanillite only appear when it's hailing in Tapu Village.

Also, I forgot to mention these last time, but there are a handful of Pokemon that won't evolve until you reach certain spots rather late into the game: Vast Poni Canyon is where Charjabug, Nosepass, and Magneton evolve into Vikavolt, Probopass and Magnezone, and Mount Lanakila, only accessed just before you can enter the Pokemon League :ajbemused:, is where Crabrawler and Eevee evolve into Crabominable and Glaceon (Eevee evolves into Leafeon in Lush Jungle).

- GameFreak FINALLY fixed the Day Care! It no longer levels up Pokemon left there too long and risks replacing moves you didn't want replaced! The "Nursery" as it's called now does exactly the one thing players have EVER used it for: it makes baby Pokemon.

And for anyone who might actually have left one of their 'mons there to level up, there's even a slightly better way to do that, too: Poke Pelago's Isle Evelup. (Though even then that island's not used for leveling up so much as it's used for EV training, which is a useful stepping stone for casual players who want to put their foot in the door of competitive play for once.)

- It occurs to me that GameFreak's reach goal for the very first Global Event in Global Link is a bit of a stretch for the time frame they gave.

Oh, definitely. At least everyone who participated in that will still get either 100 or 200 FC, depending on whether or not they logged into a Pokemon Global Link account and synced up.

...Sorry if I was rambling on for too long here. :twilightsheepish:

Isn't that pretty much exactly what I said?

All the stuff you spoilered is stuff I know from Bulbapedia and Serebii, but thanks. :twilightsheepish:

Isn't that pretty much exactly what I said?

...Yeah, pretty much :twilightsheepish:, but some people do actually use it for the other reasons I listed, especially the experience boost. Now if only those boosts were actually used when battling against friends, Battle Royals, or the Battle Tree, grumble grumble.

I probably should have figured you already looked that info up, sorry. :twilightblush:

You should get Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, it got rereleased on the PS4 last week!

4334640 I can afford maybe one brand new game a month, if that, and I'm kinda saving up for a bunch of RPGs coming out next year.. :twilightsheepish:

Oh hey, glad I read the comments. I learned things about Pokemon.

I need to read up on EV training. It's something I wish I'd known about back when I was a junior high student dicking around with Gamesharking myself a Mew. (Should've been fighting level 2 Mewtwos all along.)

Also: Boy and His Blob. I really wanted to like the NES original, but it was a game where you needed a guidebook back when guides cost money. I need to play the Wii version now.
