No updates for more than a year, oh my...

    Erm... I live?

    *sees glares*

    OK, I am sorry. Really.

    So here is the stuff:

    1) I have found to my displeasure that I need to go back to drawing board for the Western Wastelands arc in the "Fallout: Equestria Girls" story. I can churn out a chapter or two without doing that, and then I will have to rethink a number of things.

Going on a vacation for 2 weeks

Internet reception is not likely to be good, so I am basically offline; if I do happen to come around, it's not for long.

Sorry everyone, was not able to update anything in time.

    Whelp

I haven't seen "Forgotten Friendship" in full yet, but from what bits I saw on YouTube, my own headcanon got screwed (namely, that Sunset never got back to Equestria and never saw Princess Twilight and Princess Celestia until the events of Fallout: Equestria Girls).

Expect some retcon. There won't be much, but Chapter 31 at least will have to be re-written a bit.

Question to readers of "Fallout: Equestria Girls" · 7:58pm Jul 6th, 2016

Hello, my dear readers and followers!

Extradimensional Alien here, and I have some things to tell you.

First, Chapter 31 is being written right now and is currently at 4,800+ words. I suspect it might stretch to 10,000 or more words because the chapter is planned to have some moments pertaining to world-building which might be quite lengthy. Not saying anything more on that. Spoilers.

Now, as the blog says, I have a question for you.

One of the things I like most in Equestria Girls movies is the songs that one can hear while watching. I have read somewhere that good music can save a mediocre game, and I think this applies to the songs of Equestria Girls franchise as well. If not for the songs, I would not have found the movies that enjoyable. "Unleash The Magic" (my favourite) and other songs practically saved the whole Friendship Games, if you ask me.

So I have entertained the thought of doing something on that part. Since I have never entered musical school and am not even passingly familiar with MIDI-sequencor of any kind, my thought was to write some lyrics of my own, but make them fit the melody of an already existing MLP song. As far as I am aware, this should fall in line with site rules, since my own lyrics certainly would not be copyrighted. (Although this raises a question of how acceptable it is to create your own lyrics for a copyrighted song, from the POV of US copyright law.) There were (and are) moments planned for the future where some songs would be a great fit but with different lyrics that fit the situation.

But I am not 100% sure that I should do that. Fallout: Equestria Girls is still a rather dark story, and the story that inspired me to write my own (Kkat's Fallout: Equestria, of course, what else?) also has none of that singing stuff. So I have thought of three options:

1) Do as planned and include "musical numbers" in the story;
2) Abandon this train of thought;
3) Write the story without any songs inside it, but make a blog post or some external resource for any instance when I think a song with my own lyrics would fit the situation.

Please choose one option and leave a response in the comments.

Thank you.

P.S. OMG, Fallout: Equestria Girls made it to 300 likes! Awesome! :rainbowkiss:

Pick a song, add new lyrics, and present it to the song's creator/s. That's what I did for this.

Hmm... i'd say option three. But also one. It depends on the situation where they are. I think a both go. Some in blogs and some in story.

I just started reading and it was/is a lot better then I thought it would be. # 3 sounds good. I have only seen one non comedy horror musical It sucked. That's about I can say on the subject .

3 as it allows the readers to pay more direct attention to the story rather than trying to get the music synced with the words on screen.

Haven't read it yet. So from a completely outside opinion; I would say option 3.

3, with a mention about them in said chapter's author notes for those who are interested in hearing them.

It's not a bad idea by any means! But stories generally aren't the place people are looking for music. For some people it can enhance the atmosphere, while for others it can distract them from what they're reading. Some people need the silence to fully immerse themselves in the writing, and an outside source like music would pull them out of it.

So having it be an option would probably work out better than trying to either force it as a required reading or awkwardly getting it to mash together in the right way. That's just how I look at it.

3 or 2 is probably the way to go. Musical numbers rarely if ever work on a written medium.

3 would probably be the best. If anything, music is a huge part of Fallout (at least the last few entries). Instead of a random dance number out of nowhere, why not have Sunset and Twilight just turn on the radio and sing along?

Number 3

So world building? or maybe city building cuz you creating the settings for the Fallout: Equestria girls is already called world building. But yeah, that might be quite interesting. Sunset and Twilight starting a settlement and with the already growing alliance of CWN and the brotherhood of steel, this story might become how the entire country started to rebuild it self.

Anyway still looking forward to that certain Clopfic :raritywink: If it ever gets considered.

Given that the ideas involve MLP songs or some well-known songs recorded by big labels, I am not sure this will work. And if I am to involve singing brony voice actors like Nowacking or EileMonty, I'm gonna need money I cannot afford to spend right now.

Given that I imagine CWN playing the same songs that you can hear in Fallout games, and those songs are copyrighted, I can't do that per site rules. Stupid copyright laws.

4074857 whoops hehe...:twilightblush: just forget that last part. After all you have world building projects to finish, I'm looking forward to what sunny and twily have in mind since the book is not that mush of a help right now.

Still chose option number 3
