Happy Canada Day! · 2:41pm Jul 1st, 2016
Today is the anniversary of the Constitution Act, which united the original three colonies of British North America and began the process of a national "budding off" from the mother country.
But being the contrarian that I am, I would like to start a brand-new tradition for the occasion: The Playing of the Song That Would be the Anthem if I Were in Charge.
Cheers,
HV
PS.
And an early Happy Independence Day to my American readers!
Let's celebrate by watching hockey at a Tim Hortons while eating poutine, eh?

Mets-en 'Sti! (That's French Canadian for Fuck Yeah!)
That's a beautiful song. I'd vote for it.
That song is absolutely brilliant.
YAY FOR CANADA
Please don't burn the white house again we just fixed it
Somewhere:
Among my boxes of cassette tapes, I've got a recording of Stan Rogers appearing live on the L.A. folk music radio show "Folkscene" back in 1981. Most of the show is just him and his guitar and the interviewer, Howard Larman. But at one point, Rogers starts talking about the album he's just finished, Northwest Passage, and since it's just him in the studio, they play a multi-tracked recording Rogers made of the song with himself singing all four parts.
It's about four steps lower than the album version 'cause that was the only way he was gonna be able to hit the high notes, so the bassline just plain shakes the room...

Now that is cool. You know, if you have a lot of hidden treasures like that, have you considered getting them transferred to digital and putting them on YouTube or some place? If the track you mention is a rare one, I for one would be quite interested to hear it.
I was gonna post something snarky, but I had no idea Stan Rogers died when I was 2. c.c The world is truly cruel.
I was going to point some things out in a smart-ass way - but then I listened to the song.
Fuck it. Happy (late) Canada Day!
