    So I'm watching the premiere

No, I haven't watched season 8. Yes, I am watching because Chrysalis, Tirek, and Sombra are back. Also, why was an eight year old in Tartarus, who made that decision?

    Making It Official

I haven't been active on the site for over a year. I have occasionally checked in to see how everyone was doing, but I've barely gotten any writing done here. I know I left on a hiatus last year and said I might come back to the site one day, but that's looking less likely with every passing day.

So, I'm making it official; I'm leaving.

Season 6, Episode 9 Thoughts and Review · 8:20pm May 21st, 2016

This is my new spoiler warning and you can't stop me.

So, this was a cute episode! I know it's not really revolutionary, but I really liked watching it. Not exceptional, but still enjoyable. Now, let's get onto the episode!

The episode begins with Twilight Sparkle and her friends racing to Carousel Boutique to stop Rarity from reading her morning newspaper. Expecting a review to be printed about the disastrous grand opening of Rarity's new boutique in Manehattan, the ponies feel guilty for causing the chain of events leading up to it. Fortunately, when they arrive at Rarity's home, she has not yet read the review. The ponies try to stop Rarity from reading the review and explain what happened during the grand opening, but she insists on "no spoilers".

"NO SPOILERS~!"

As Rarity starts reading the article, the episode flashes back to a diner in which Manehattan columnist Buried Lede interviews Rarity and her friends one-on-one about the opening of Rarity For You. Rarity begins her interview with high hopes, but her friends express how much of an ordeal it was.

One of my fave things about this episode is how it showed the different personalities of the girls.

The episode flashes back further to Rarity and her friends walking through Manehattan's "Saddle Row", a street lined with numerous famous boutiques and where Rarity For You is located. With the inside of the boutique a dusty shambles, Twilight wonders if it will be ready for the grand opening that evening, but Rarity remains ever hopeful.

However, a number of additional problems arise. Rarity's pushy landlord Mr. Stripes arrives and strong-arms her into giving his daughter Plaid Stripes—who lacks business experience—a job in the boutique.

She's such a dork and I love her.

In addition, a family of raccoons has taken up residence in one of the boutique's back rooms and the upper floor is home to DJ Pon-3's noisy dance club.

RAVE PONIES~!

Plaid Stripes starts making changes to the store that Rarity disagrees with, Rarity's merchandise delivery arrives in a disorganized mess, and Coco Pommel—whom Rarity has hired to work as a salespony—is unable to help with the grand opening due to a cold.

I feel you, girl. Still getting over a cold I got last Friday.

With everything rapidly falling apart, Twilight suggests postponing the opening of Rarity For You, but Rarity disagrees because of Manehattan's high standards. Her friends realize the tall task ahead of her and offer to help while keeping true to Rarity's vision.

I relate to this so much.

While Rarity focuses on setting up the window display, Pinkie Pie goes upstairs and replaces DJ Pon-3's loud music with quieter music, Rainbow Dash interviews several potential boutique employees, Applejack politely rejects Plaid Stripes' business ideas, Twilight organizes Rarity's disorganized dresses, and Fluttershy tries to evict the family of raccoons from the building.

Unfortunately, this leads to even further misfortune as Rainbow doesn't know who to hire, Applejack draws the fury of Plaid Stripes' father, and the raccoons angrily turn on Fluttershy. Before Rarity can come out and see the chaos building inside the boutique, Twilight locks her in the window display room.

Geez, Twilight.

Twilight asks how all this happened, and the other ponies explain that they acted in accordance to what they believe Rarity wanted. Considering how well Rarity knows her closest friends, Twilight realizes she would want them to help in their own ways, not just Rarity's way. With this in mind, the ponies resolve to fix the mess they created.

Fluttershy allows the raccoons to stay in the building in return for a favor, Pinkie Pie appeals to DJ Pon-3, Rainbow Dash organizes a race between the potential employees, and Applejack helps Plaid Stripes make a unique contribution to the boutique.

SWAG

That evening, Twilight finally lets Rarity out of the window display room so she can behold the work her friends have done. Immensely pleased by their efforts, Rarity officially opens Rarity For You to the public. The employees that Rainbow Dash hired assist with the large crowd, DJ Pon-3 provides ambient music courtesy of Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy's raccoons and Plaid Stripes provide fancy snacks. With the help of Rarity's friends, the grand opening of Rarity For You is met with overwhelming success.

Friendly reminder that hoof-raving is a thing and I am glad for it.

Back in present day, Rarity finishes reading the boutique opening's glowing review in her newspaper, reading about how the combination of Rarity's vision and her friends' expertise helped pull everything together. She asks the others why they didn't tell her there were so many problems, and they explain that they didn't want to burden her with a non-perfect grand opening.

"'Ne'er-do-wells' or not, I know I can always count on all of you. Nothing could be more perfect than that."
— Rarity

SURPRISE ENDING, HAHA.

Alright, so let's talk about this episode. This was a Mane Six episode, although this was taking place as a part of Rarity's career. Something that was really awesome about this episode was how the Mane Six each got to shine in their own way and contribute to help Rarity's dream for a Manehatten shop come true. While the girls will always have their own dreams and aspirations, they are always going to be there for each other for when those dreams come true.

Just seeing the girls being friends was so good.

I feel like this would be a good introductory episode into the show because it establishes the girl's personalities and the way they differ from each other.

See, the thing about this, though, is that we get to see all the things that make the girls different... But it doesn't cause a big problem. In fact, one of the problems was that they weren't handling the situations as themselves, and as soon as they did just that, everything started to work out. It just emphasizes how important the diversity between the girls are and how that diversity never tears them apart.

Another fun thing that could make this a good introductory episode is that it makes people go, "Hang on, when did this happen?" There were a couple callbacks to other episodes that could entice people to look even more into the show. If anything, I feel like people would start watching the show just to figure out what the hay this was about:

I AM STILL LAUGHING OVER THIS, WTF, HOW DID THAT CLONE EVEN GET THERE

Plus, we got to see Coco Pommel and we actually got an explanation for why she couldn't be a bigger part of this episode (unlike in "Canterlot Boutique"). I'm a bit sad she couldn't help, but at least we got a valid reason for her not having part in the story... Which I can't say has been done for other characters in the show.

Speaking of... Whelp, this was gonna come up, but where are Spike and Starlight? They're a part of the main cast, yet they were nowhere in sight. I was at least expecting Spike to be there, considering this is Rarity's opening for her new boutique... WAIT, HE WASN'T EVEN AT THE CANTERLOT BOUTIQUE OPENING, WHAT THE HELL? Seriously, where the hell is Spike and how come he isn't in either of these episodes?

Oh, well, at least they added him to the Gameloft game, BUT I'M STILL BITTER AS FUCK OVER THIS.

EDIT: turns out he was in "Canterlot Boutique" but had no lines. I barely count it.

And then there's Starlight, who has been in a lot of episodes this season. She's been going through the reformation process and has been learning about friendship under Twilight, so it makes sense for her to have some episodes. However, I'm gonna be honest and say that I feel like this episode worked better because it didn't have Starlight.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm glad that she's getting screentime and development, but I can't say this episode would have been better with her in it. I still hold onto the idea that this could work as a introductory episode, and while it does have some callbacks that could confuse new viewers (but also entice more viewing :raritywink:), adding Starlight in would have just... been too much. So, unlike with Spike, I'm kinda glad that this episode didn't have her in it.

...I may or may not have a fic idea about Starlight and Spike being at home alone while this is all going on. You'll just have to wait and see.

Now, what can we expect about next week's episode?

Season 6, Episode 10: Applejack's "Day" Off
While Rarity struggles to get Applejack to relax at the spa, Twilight and Spike find covering her “simple” farm chores to be a more difficult job than they anticipated.

YAY, AN AJ EPISODE! I wonder if this is gonna be like "Applebuck Season"...

Is there anything you wanna talk about or think I missed in this review? Let's discuss down in the comments below!

I don't mind Spike not being there, since there isn't much he could do.

As for Starlight, I pretty much hold the idea that any episode of the season that doesn't have her in it takes place before the Cutie Re-Mark.

3961615
Yeah, I know that episodes don't really air in a specific order (save for a few events, of course), but I still wonder, y'know?

I thought Spike was in Canterlot Botique. And the jokes were spot on.

I'm hoping to see Spike and Twilight having to deal with a critter problem next week, but that's just me. They could be over worked.

Theories for second Pinkie:
1.Escaped Mirror Pool/Pond/whatever body of water clone, which is the implication from what Pinkie said.

2.Changeling, which would kind of fit since we saw that out of focus changeling in the premier waaay in the background (of course that's what it was)

3.That Friendship Games "blooper" video holds more truth than it lets on and it's human Pinkie visiting. Although, come on, like we all don't believe both Pinkie's regularly go into each others worlds.

4. All of the above, somehow, because Pinkie logic

Well, that answers my question. I'm the only one who finds Plaid Stripes to be awful.:ajbemused:

3961649
Yeah, I looked back, and he was in the episode. He barely said a single word, which is why I didn't remember him being in the episode.

3961675
She did get on my nerves during the episode, but I can barely hold it against her since the whole point of her character was to be awful.

3961635 True.
It would make things like that easier to understand if the episodes aired in the order that they took place, but seeing as this is a Slice of Life show, I doubt that'll ever actually happen.

3961615 I suppose that will have to do for an explanation for now.

Did anyone notice one of the rave ponies looked identical to pinkie pie?

3961705
Yeah, I saw that, too! Must be a cousin or something...

J. Jonah Jameson from spider man

It was bugging me a bit that Rarity did not know about the club upstairs and the state of the rooms. And that she didn't start earlier setting everything up. Or did I miss the explanation as to why she could not?
She took a whole day to check out locations in The Gift of Maud Pie, you'd think she didn't just buy it blindly, even if it was the last one available.

Otherwise, I liked it.

3962079
That's a pretty good point, actually... I find it hard for a perfectionist like Rarity to ignore factors like that...

This episode was amazing, first one from Season 6 I've seen in a while. There were so many good aspects of it! (My fav being the Jay Jona pony. :rainbowlaugh: "RARITY!! WHEN YOU'RE DONE TELLING ME ABOUT YOUR BOUTIQUE, GET ME PICTURES OF SPIDER-MARE!!")
