I'll say it, i'm not really a big fan of Adventure Time. It's just so random it's hard to enjoy sometimes. I've enjoyed a few episodes here and there, but most just feel blah to me.
However, i did come to think of the Ice King as a bad guy and nothing else (a weird bad guy with an emotional flipper, but bad none the less), until i saw the Christmas episode where we learn he used to be a normal person until the crown's power changed him and the fact it caused him to lose his girlfriend is why he keeps going after the princesses, because his girlfriend was his own princess in his mind.
I found again a reason to respect him as, after learning about the Mushroom War (don't know too much about this, so bear with me, okay?) the world went up and over or something and Finn is the literally last human, at least when it comes to being normal; in truth, the Ice King is also a human, but the crown's power changed him so much, i've just found out he has a connection, Marceline the vampire. She was a little girl during the war, or right after when the world was a wreck, but the Ice King, back when he still went by the name Simon, found her and did his best to care for her, even though the crown's power made it harder and harder to keep his mind in tact, him even writing his feelings down, including an explanation to Marceline about how the crown is what keeps him alive, but is messing with his head, which is why he does the weird shit he does and can't remember her.

Honestly, considering my original view of Adventure Time, that's some deep shit. The show in itself is way too weird for me to be a fan beyond a handful of episodes, but the lore of the show is something to be respected.
Okay, just wanted to say that and let others know my opinion. Now, i'm going back to Dinky's change.

agree, i dislike the show, but the lore is too good and all the back story and stuff drag me back into the show.
