Starlight Glimmer's fannon punishment list · 7:26pm Jan 17th, 2016

Okay. I'm making a list of 'alternate endings' and 'fix fic' punishments for Glimmer. Anyone have any other fanfics or fan comics they've seen or read to add to the list?

Let's see,
-Twilight getting Glimmer to see reason by brow beating her, and trivializing her origin that snow balled things.
-Discord creates a temporal clone of Glimmer that he zapped to a world and future were ponies are near mindless batteries mass produced by changelings and changed to fit, and left inside a 'battery pack's to scream for the rest of her life.
-Retconning her out of existence and raising her foal self.

Starlight has to work alongside the new mayor of Our Town, Double Diamond, the pony who loved her the most and is the most frightened of her now.

That actually sounds REASONABLE. And actually FITS WITH THE SHOW. Something the vast majority of 'fix fics' regarding Glimmer seriously LACK.

Starlight Glimmer is put on trial by Celestia and Luna for her tampering with the timeline. Twilight as her defense, Sunset Shimmer as the prosecution. The witnesses?

Celestia from the Sombra War world, only she's LOST that war and turned into a crystal zombie. (Look up Cutie Mark Crusaders 40,000K on Deviantart to get an idea of what I call the 'crystal zombies' look like.)
Celestia from the Chrysalis Victory world, transformed into a changeling warrior.
A ghost of Celestia from the Nightmare Moon world, still trapped on the moon but allowed to talk.
Dementia, the draconequus formerly known as Celestia, having been tortured into madness by the Discord of her world.
Deviltia, a version of Celestia demonically corrupted by Tirek forcibly exiling her to Tartarus
Secretary Celestia, a depowered, bitter version of Celestia from the Flim/Flam world working for the REAL power behind Flim and Flam, Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer

Twilight Sparkle's job as defense council is to convince Crystalestia, Chrysalestia, Ghostlestia, Dementia, Deviltia, and Secretary Celestia that Starlight Glimmer should be forgiven and given a chance to atone for her crimes... She tries so very hard, but fails to prove her case, meaning that Luna and Celestia must have Starlight face justice. Before the alternate Celestias can close their portals, their masters jump through and attack. Sombra, Chrysalis, Nightmare Moon, Discord, Tirek, and the evil Twilight and Sunset of the other worlds attack, revealing that they were just using their Celestias to get a gateway into this world. A fight scene ensues, one that shows off Celestia and Luna being badasses (and has the alternate Nightmare Moon get a smack in the soul from a Rainbow Power healing beam), ending with Starlight Glimmer throwing herself (using a magical forcefield) in front of a blast from Sombra that would have killed the otherwise unaware Twilight. Starlight barely lives, and the alternate Celestias are swayed enough to change their verdict (although reluctant). As Starlight recovers, the Mane Six come up with a plan to keep a constant watch on her while teaching her the magic of friendship.

And where is this fanfic?

And I HAVE seen Crusaders 1K, and it's the most depressing and grim mockery of everything that is MLP that I've ever read, and I still break down into fits about it, and I DREAD to try and search for new pony fan comics because IT might pop up. I have Nyarlathotrot say it's his "best work" for corrupted timelines. A big theme of the finale arc for pony pov is the ponies saving their friends and family from corruption WITHOUT becoming a buncha thugs and NOT writing them off as the only way to save them being a sword through the brain.

Seriously, that fan comic DOES NOT do anything good for my depression or stress. And when you have poor impulse control that forces you to finish ANY comic that you START reading, it's a BAD combination!

I thought that Fan of Most Everything's (the one with the temporal clone suffering the "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" fate) was fairly consistent with Discord's expressed personality on the show. Even Heel Face Turned Discord isn't so much a really nice guy, as a guy who now is friends with Fluttershy and the Mane Six, and wants to stay in their good graces so generally doesn't harm other Ponies either. But Starlight Glimmer gave him a personal reason to hate her, when she tried to keep Fluttershy as a captive -- and, unlike the case with Tree Hugger, Discord hating Starlight Glimmer isn't that unreasonable. (I like to think that Discord and Tree Hugger eventually became friends).

I'd say some sort of community service, something alone the lines of what TheFanFicPony said.

And in what fanfic did this happen?

3693133

I felt like I was reading a fanfic where Nightmare Eclipse was being depicted as the good guy.

3693155

It isn't. It's something I've been thinking about since while I did buy Starlight's reformation, it feels like she was let off the hook a bit too easily, montage or not. My only hope is that in Season 6 she struggles to try to not crack/do something stupid/regrettable.

3693156

I think it was meant as horror -- the point of it being that Discord is a "Dangerous Friend" -- the sort of friend who might do terrible things, things that one would not want him to do, to others whom he perceived as your enemies, if he liked you. Note well, Discord did this because he was furious that Starlight Glimmer had tried to hurt Fluttershy and then had ignored his warning. Discord also likes Twilight Sparkle, and didn't appreciate that Twilight was Starlight's primary target. Finally, his own pride was affected, because Starlight had failed to back down from the earlier warning.

3693168

It was one of the most spiteful fics I've read, including some of my own.

Well there is SS&E's and RC's "Starlight locked in a temporal loop that she can never break out of" stories although SS&E's is much more bleak than RC's

Alex, you aren't clear that these have to be in fanfics.

3693112 Oh. I misread it as you looking for ideas. Sorry.

3693119 Sorry. Didn't mean to bring up something that depressed you.

3693119 Do you mean Cutie Mark Crusaders 10,000 by Gates McCloud?

And what is the name of the Changeling Battery Pack story?

3693831

Yes. And I've thankfully forgotten the title.

One that I actually liked kind of qualifies. It's from the cynical yet insightful "MLP Mentally Advanced Series." Starlight Glimmer is belittled by Twilight for her motivation, and sentenced to a harsh punishment. The catch is that the "punishment" is the same as she gets in the show, it just sounds a lot more ominous as "Six Consecutive Lifetime Sentences as friend to the Elements of Harmony."

It's less than 3 minutes long, so I leave you to judge for yourself:

3693869 Found it. A Crazed Gleam.

3693229

Does that count? At least with SS&E's, it's pretty clear that the punishment is completely cruel and over-the-top, and not really in response to how much the author likes/dislikes her or her backstory. It's less of a 'fix Starlight fic' and more of a 'break Starlight fic'.

Well, I remember story "Market day" where Ponyvillians pressing Starlight for alternative timelines and this story, where Twilight use equalisation spell on Glimmer.
Sorry for bad English.

3706632

They're both horrible IMHO.

Since the whole damn point was where in the damn family feud solved by animals, Twilight was stuck being used as Fluttershy's stick instead of for her brains.

Here, she was in the opposite scenario, where brute force seemed the answer, but she got Starlight to step down.. by being perhaps the first pony in Starlight's life NOT to tell her 'get over it' and DIDN'T trivialize her pain.

3706663

You're right. But this ISN'T our world. And I think a lot of fan fiction writers (myself included) often FORGET THAT FACT! Ponies DON'T RUN on the same logic as humans when it comes to such things.

And seriously, after all the destruction to reality that Glimmer's messing with the timeline caused, that Twilight making such a change to reality WASN'T going to snowball into a disaster too? Sorry, it's bad writing.

I respect that you enjoy their writing. Please respect that I don't.

3706670

I could sincerely say something to that.... but I don't want to engage in a giant debate.

I ironically REGRET a lot of the grittier crude I threw into the series in the early days and now look back on it in shame.

Nowadays I use the logic of making the kid's show logic WORK rather than REMOVING it. (SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 42 of finale arc this is a major reason WHY Apple Bloom refuses to kill Little Dread, since she doesn't WANT their world to become 'more adult'.

The irony is that when something NICE happens in cannon... I allow ripples of it to reach the Pony POV Series.

I'd have NEVER seen Discord as anything other than evil itself, something the universe would be better off without. Then Discord saw his heart world self reform, and he was stripped of his excuse that the way he acted was just the nature of the beast, he can't hide behind that excuse anymore for why he never tries to make himself a better person.
