Religious parents... · 2:58pm Sep 14th, 2015
My parents are very religious. They are a little upset I'm not very religious. I love them, but I feel if they ever found out what I do on the Internet (romantic human x MLP FIM pony fan fiction I write on fimfiction) they would be extremely upset with me.
I feel like they would dismiss me as a sick freak that views MLP FIM ponies on the same level as humans. (cartoon I know, but still) Even if I argued what I like is sapient minded like a human, I feel like they would yell and hate at me for the mere fact I love something other than human.
Can you give any advice?
Edit note: I'm Irish and my parents are devoted catholics. And I live in Ireland.
Fuck them. Fuck them in the ass, with a big rubber dick. Then break it off,and beat them with the rest of it.
Unless they worship the Celestial Horse Ass. Then they are the bestest parents ever.
Well i don't know how a Christian religion really work but my family is also religious, just not that typical religious type. More of an open minded. My family know I am a bit pervert, but they always advice me to remember our teaching and always do prayer. What we do is our own choice but always remember your teaching. Well thats my opinion, beside I am a Muslim btw..
They can never know your handle on fimfiction. They can never know about fimfiction.
As for the dislike of your religious lacking, always brickwall any attempts to shift the conversation that direction. The less they get to speak at you, the less prominence it will take in their mind. This will make them think you are growing distant from them, but truth is you already are and the wool is comeing off their eyes.
Christianity and the teachings of Christ are about loving, understanding, and forgiving your fellow man or woman. If they can't accept that, then they don't have a right to identify as Christians. This is coming from a former Christian.

I'm Irish and my parents are devoted catholics. I'm not sure there's much similarity between the two, since I don't study religion. But I would appreciate the advice nonetheless.

Oh Catholic, well this is hard. From what I heard, Catholic are more strict and bit more fanatic. While Islam law are often open to be discuss. It is why in Indonesia, if u masturbate, your hand will be chopped while in Malaysia, it is just frown upon.
I'm a scientific-minded Catholic in a Catholic household, with a sister who's Atheist, an a Wiccan uncle, so no advice there.
As for the rest of it all...
I live with my grandmother who reached the conclusion the Game of Thrones is disgusting just by watching the first half of episode 1 of season 1.
My uncle once told a guy, in public, to grow up because he had a brony T-shirt on.
I got told to grow up because I pre-ordered Assassin's Creed IV.
I honestly expect that I would get disowned if they learned I was a brony.
Do you have any advice for me?

Well Ireland is a bit open minded these days. There is a growing number of atheists as well as Christians that don't really practice their religion. Still, there would be few hardcore religious people in Ireland, but I'm not sure if my parents would be on that level. (At least on the level for hating someone being in love with MLP FIM Ponies)

Other than keep quiet and don't tell anyone you're brony not really.

Well I got an idea, try asking question to your parent like what they think of MLP and stuff. But when you ask, tried to make sure it wasn't directed to you. You can gauge of their opinions. If they don't like it well you might as well try to keep it yourself.
Sorry m8, I'm afraid this is one aspect of yourself and your identity you'll just have to keep hidden. I just don't think revealing your love of pony is going to end well with them. But hey, it's not like you gotta run around, keeping a real-life lover hidden, right? You got that going for ya.
3392439
I refer not to even mention it to them.
Lucky my parents don't use the Internet very much, so it's unlikely they will find out what I do on fimfiction.
3392467
I'll keep it hidden. I'm better off telling no one how I feel about MLP FIM ponies.
3392504
Well thats okay. Though thats how I gauge people opinion by asking them question.
3392504 Yeah, and like I said, it's not like hiding a forbidden lover, until somehow the portal to Equestria does open for the super-sexy ponies of the other world to save us from Conversion-tubbies

Or evil non human fetish TCB ponies? XD
Those evil TCB ponies would be vastly outnumbered by the sheer number of ponies that want humans in bed with them. XD
I think you are worrying about the privacy of your own mind. Just don't tell them. Your freedom to express yourself stands even if there is nothing that requires you to share your private thoughts, unspoken, written, or whatever, with anyone, lest you choose to. Yes, you are likely not to be particularly approved of by your own folks, but that is OK. You are your own person, just as they are their own persons. You don't have to justify your expressions or likings to them, nor they to you.
Begin rant:
I also worry about my parents, my father of whom is a devoted Catholic, finding out my online activities. For my father, it doesn't help that I am an introverted atheist/borderline anti-theist metal-headed brony with BPII and GAD. My mother is a quasi-agnostic-?-something I can't figure out. Simply put, they wouldn't understand, in the sense that they don't get why I read/write/do what I want. Yet, while my father is a Catholic, he upholds free will and doesn't comment on my being a brony.
When ever religion becomes a topic of conversation, I lean the dialogue towards philosophical discussions of ethics. The purpose of this is not necessarily to undermine the issue, but to exhaust it by showing your intellect, or what you might call free will. Eventually, I was lucky enough that this effectively cut off the this catholic divide and my father and I can enjoy other things in life (like beer )
I can only speak for myself, but there isn't going to be much you can do about your parents approving or disapproving what you do, Bendy. So long as what you do is morally permissible or within the bounds of "moral greyness", their opinions are solely upon themselves.
Although it doesn't quite apply, try to think of this along the lines of burden of proof. You are free to do as you wish: this is a fundamental tenant of free will, "sinner" or not. Most "true" Catholics (at least should if they are devoted) uphold this out of necessity. For them to claim that you should not do something, THEY must put forth the argument.
Hope this helps a bit, and you can always message me if you want

May I ask you how old you are?
Roughly is ok.
I think the age is important for us to analyze further.
If they find out they will most likely still love you, they may be angry but they'll still love you. I mean they're your parents for Pete's sake.
You need to get Commander Shephard to straight-up gank their cracker asses.
My advice is to keep your Bronyhood in the closet. Really, it's bad enough with religion mixed in and if that's how they feel about religion I can only imagine the disproportionate shitstorm about liking a children's cartoon.
Keep it to yourself, don't introduce more complications. Besides, you have us.
