Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

    Swan Song

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Friendship is Card Games: d20 Pony, Ch. 9, Pt. 1

Goodness, it’s been almost two years since I last checked in on Trailblazer’s adventures. IDW putting out comics almost as quickly as I could review them will do that, especially given all of the G5 video media coming out concurrently.

    Conflicted Crossroads

I have an interesting dilemma with an upcoming story, and thus I turn to the Fimfic public (or that portion of it that sees these blogs) for its wisdom.

Who remembers the Fblthp Saga?

No, I didn't just punch my keyboard. That was a thing that happened about two years ago.

First was the Magic card Totally Lost, featuring everyone's favorite homunculus, Fblthp. And when I say "everyone," I mean it—the Magic community ate him up. This led to a story on the Magic website, which in turn inspired Lithl to write Fblthp is Totally Lost, which led to the Sideboard of Harmony story "A Sly Toll Tot." That, in turn, led to The Implicit Neighs by way of a literal plot device. And now Lithl captured that device in card form and sent it to me:

Thanks again.

I have no idea if that is a good card or a bad card.

Ah, what if machines. Always fun.

Does MTG have cards that you can cast from your library whenever you look at them? From what I understand of how the game works, those would work really well with being able to look at the top of your library (and reshuffle) at any time.

I had completely forgotten about Fblthp, I do remember one article where Fblthp was in a commander game and watched eldrazi eat everything.

No. Panglacial Wurm may be cast while searching your library, and a few cards permit you to play cards from the top of your library (Future Sight, Magus of the Future, Melek, Izzet Paragon, Garruk's Horde, Oracle of Mul Daya, Courser of Kruphix, and Temporal Aperture), but there is nothing which may be cast simply because you can look at it.

This card gives you information (without also giving that information to your opponent, as with Goblin Spy), and then allows you to (randomly) change that information.

The ability to shuffle you deck at-will is very useful with cards like Brainstorm and Scroll Rack: you get rid of cards you don't want right now, add new cards to your hand, and make the cards you don't want go away, instead of popping up again over the next couple turns.

Because you always get to know the top card of your deck, if you have spare red and blue mana sitting around at the end of your opponent's turn (say, you were holding mana open for a counterspell that you didn't need to use), you can help insure that the card you draw on your turn is something useful by looking at the top card, shuffling if it's bad, looking at the top card, shuffling, etc.

This card would not be printed in today's Magic world, because Wizards of the Coast is trying to reduce the amount of shuffling going on in tournaments (this is a similar reason to why Sensei's Divining Top is banned in the Modern format). This is also part of why I made the card a Rare, because it's not something you'd want to see in every game of Limited.

Fblthp is too OP for me, man.

It's probably pretty bad. It doesn't do anything, it costs two different colors of mana to shuffle your deck, and it costs three to cast. There are fringe scenarios where it'd be okay, but when your ceiling is "okay" and your floor is "garbage," you're in for a rough time.

*snerk* It suits you perfectly.

Sooo... is that "mechanic oracle", or "mechani-coracle"?

3375117 If you wanted to avoid shuffling too much, couldn't you just say something like "(U/R): Put the top card of your library on the bottom of your library"? Or if you want it to be more thorough, "UR: Put the top five cards of your library on the bottom in the same order"?

Because neither of those fits the flavor of the card. :derpytongue2:

Considering this is Izzet we're talking about, the answer is either "yes" or "possibly".

I have a finglonger.

It shortens the distance my finger has to travel to poke someone :B And when I do, the touch-all-the-things demon is released from his prison yay! ^_^
