As far as I can tell, the following map is canon!
So things just got interesting. I'm not entirely sure what to do about it, but I can tell you that I'm actually rather pleased. My biggest story has, in my head, a map which does somewhat resemble the above, where the following points match up:
* griffons are Eastwards
* dragons are South/SouthEast
* desert is South/SouthWest (there be dragons across the whole South West, South and South East, it seems, just like I wanted!)
* the frozen north (ssh! we haven't gone there yet!)
* Los Pegasus is on the South West (we haven't gone there yet, but that's where I put it)
* Cloudsdale is to the North West of Canterlot
A few things don't exactly match up, but there's wiggle room:
* Tacksworn would be South of Appleloosa (maybe beyond the badlands)
* Neighvada and Rein would be roughly where Dodge City is, if they're not further South (i.e. beyond the badlands)
...and the bad news is a few things don't show up or are potentially in the wrong place
* dodge city I've mentioned (which might not be an issue)
* manehatten is roughly where I've put Stalliongrad, which doesn't show up... unless it's further East (maybe in the frozen North or just plain off the map)
So, I'm really interested in the map, I'm going to keep on referring to it, it's pretty awesome... and I don't have to rip out huge pieces of my story! Woohoo!

Ooh, I should edit my post a little - looks like Tacksworn is essentially in the San Palomino Desert, which puts Neighvada EITHER up near Dodge City or South of the Badlands. The diamond dogs, however, would have been skulking around the parts of the Badlands not on the map - which is where Flutterfire would have met her end - as well as in the desert. A lot of what I'm writing about is essentially "off the map" but I'm glad that the bits that are actually line up enough to not overly need revising!
Bottom left corner solves some issues, though I can't exactly make out the first one or two words.

Aw, poo. In my story, the Everfree Forest is huge. I called it, "the largest expanse of wild woods in Equestria."

Well... At least my OC Drakkar will be okay, since there's nothing mapped beyond the mountains. He's still alive!
Ponies of the Five Rings got totally screwed. However, I guess I can work on it. The Taint may have spread through the South, getting places like the Badlands. Seems badass enough. Well, nopony said that making a huge scale story was easy.
Thanks for sharing, Middy. Now everypony can stand in the place that they live and face north, think about direction and wonder why they haven't before. Their hooves are going to be on the ground, their heads are there to move them around.

That map's cool. Remember, though, it's not to scale. So you could just cheese your way around that, and blow it up by like 600% and shift everything around just a smidgen if you're really that concerned about sticking to it.

...Great! I needed a map for my story which I will get back to someday. ...Hmm... of course, this is just Equestria. If I wanted to send the ponies out of Equestria, there would need to be some additions... Still, yay.

thats just a small chunk of the world... like looking at just the US when there is canada,mexico, and south americas to concider as well.
Not to Scale is the best part of this map. Snaffleton (not that anyone cares) would be on the east side of Ghastly Gorge, and south a bit more.
