051 Announcing: Dichromatic!
Some of you might have noticed how much I enjoy trying out new things and formulas. This time, on the occasion of a new changeling story coming up soon, I decided to make a movie trailer-esque teaser for it to build up the hype (because that’s what trailers do, right?). There’s a catch, though. As a writer, I operate on words and let the readers translate them into images, so the announcement below the break is equally wordy, but hopefully fun nonetheless. It consists of passages from Cheersalis, Snowboardling (both changeling fics), and of course the upcoming title. Just pretend it’s read by Jon Bailey and that Two Steps From Hell made some nice music for it. I recommend Rise Above, possibly after you read the trailer for the first time to get the general grasp of it. That's what I would use if I had any footage to work with!

BEFORE SHE WAS THE ADVISOR
(a changeling of violet eyes holding an elegant notepad appears)
“My name is Lili-Iqqel of the Speaker Caste, First Advisor to Queen Chrysalis of the Changeling Hive Chrysalis. Iqqel for short will do.”
BEFORE SHE WAS SAVING HER QUEEN FROM MAKING A FOOL OF HERSELF
(Queen Chrysalis appears, surprised by the Equestrian Ambassador's knowledge of changeling customs)
And Chrysalis did not see it coming! Unprepared, she was about to disregard the gesture completely, but she spotted Iqqel flying towards her, carrying a silver plate with two green scrunchies on it. Blessing the advisor in her mind, Chrysalis immediately lifted them and used to alter her appearance as well.
AGAIN
(Chrysalis in the winter attire appears, standing on a snowboard and looking utterly hopeless)
“What do I do now? My legs are constricted in these bear traps! I can hardly move!” she moaned. “You’re my advisor, Iqqel. Advise me!”
“Snowboarding one-oh-one,” Iqqel said. “First off, try to feel the board underneath you. Applying pressure to your lead hooves makes the board move.”AND AGAIN
(Chrysalis reappears, demonstratively dismissing Princess Celestia's accusation)
Chrysalis laughed. “Me? Learning? Don’t be ridiculous! I was just—”
“—showing me how to ride it, actually,” Iqqel cut in. She then stepped on the board, finding place between the legs of the much bigger changeling queen. It was a bit awkward, but Chrysalis knew what Iqqel was after. “Am I doing it right, my Queen? I admit, I could never get a grasp on the balance aspect, but I think I understand now.”SHE WAS JUST A REGULAR DRONE
(a young, slightly upset changeling of white eyes appears)
I threw my hooves in the air. “Argh! Why can’t you be serious before the single most important dormant of our lives? Just because we have already picked our names doesn’t mean we won’t be changing them! It’s a choice that will determine our future and our duties to the Hive! Surely even you realize how important the Ceremony of Names is!”
(darkness)
PREPARE
BECAUSE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER LEARNED ABOUT HER
(Iqqel appears, sitting at the dining table, putting a glass down)
“I can tell you about my Ceremony,” Iqqel said. “As a drone who was always more comfortable with my feminine traits, I also felt my talents revolved around helping others through what I could say to them. I enjoyed that more than anything else, and in time I realized it was my destiny to dedicate myself to the Speaker Caste. It took me quite some time of walking around the Hall to choose my name, but when I finally found it, I closed my eyes and spoke my vow—"
IS BASED ON A LIE
(music stops)
(Iqqel reappears with a relaxed expression on her face)
“—‘Yesterday a drone, tomorrow Lili-Iqqel of the Speaker Caste’. When I opened my eyes, my confessor said they turned violet. Simple as that.”
(darkness)
(fast paced music)

(worried stares of multiple changelings standing on a rock shelf)

(Iqqel appears, smiling)
“I will stand beside you and I will always be your friend. Always.”
CHOICE
(Iqqel appears, pondering)
“That’s exactly my problem, Lilo. I can’t decide between these two roles, and I find them equally important. What would you have me do?”
AND PAIN
(Iqqel appears, crying)
“I don’t give a dead bat about the needs of the many! I want my friend back! I want her back!”
(dramatic crescendo, sudden cut)

(an uneven, faintly illuminated rock surface with names written all over it appears)
(camera zooms in on the name Iqqel)
(a lead voice beginning, the choir responding solemnly)
“By the name of Ezuo-Kassin—”
“—Ancestors, alter me.”
