So I just beat Sonic Colors · 2:51am May 15th, 2015
And I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! I believe it to be a great entry into the Sonic franchise. I can see why people say it's one of the better Sonic games out there. The game is beautiful for a Wii game, displaying all sorts of amazing looking neon lights, bright and colorful landscapes, and awesome looking levels in space.
The writing/story was about what I expected from an E rated Sonic title, and it's pretty good, Sonic is Sonic, Tails is Tails, Eggman is Eggman, ect. The way it was written gave me the feeling that I was playing the videogame version of a Sonic Saturday morning cartoon show like thhe one that used to be on Fox, complete with comic relief robots.
The gameplay was great, Sonic was great to control all the way through each of the worlds, it was awesome using his trademark speed along with all the powers that the whisps gave you. Probably my favorite powers were Laser, which let you do a spin dash through waves of enemies, Drill which basically let Sonic pull off a Giga Drill Breaker, and Frenzy which turned you into a purple shark monster that grew the more it destroyed, it was all pretty fun. The Whisps seriously added to the fun factor in this game, and I hope they can come back in a future installment of some sort.
The music? It's Sonic the Hedgehog, of course it's going to have kick ass music!! I love the orchestrated version of "Reach for the Stars" that played during the final battle, it was so awesome!
While Sonic Colors is a great game, there were some things that I feel held it back from being amazing. For starters, the bosses are all incredibly easy, it's literally three hits and most are dead. If that wasn't bad enough, most of the bosses (and by that, I mean all but the final boss) are recolors of one another with slightly altered movesets. I just felt the bosses weren't the best they could be in this game. :/ Another nitpick of mine is most of the world called Planet Whisp, it's one of the most beautiful levels in the game with great music, but there's a lot of vertical platforming and tricky spots in those which I feel made it more difficult in a bad way.
Sure Sonic Colors has its hiccups, what game doesn't? While some areas of the game may definitely be weaker than others, I still found it to be an incredibly enjoyable experience. I would probably give this game a firm 8.5/10. This game was definitely worth the eight bucks I bought it for, and I'm sure I'll play it again some time in the future. But for now, perhaps I should get back to writing Pie of my Eye considering I'm getting close to an important part. Buuuut....I have Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Adventure 2 battle here with me.....they look mighty tempting.......Don't worry....though, Pie of my Eye is actually coming along really well.
Sonic Adventure 2 is the best Sonic game of all time. No question.
Shadow the Hedgehog was my fave in the series!
Sonic Unleashed is my all time favorite.
