A new story in the works · 9:56am Feb 7th, 2015
Why, yes, A Matter of Interest is tagged for this blog. No, there is no update for it forthcoming; truthfully, I think I'll go back and do some more revisions, this time to update the prose. My style changes over time, and after a year, it's probably going to be quite noticeable. I may want to strike a different tone going forward, too. Unsure yet.
Anyway.
There are actually a few stories in the works, plus one update. First, A Chronicle from a Time of Darkness is going on hiatus. It's been a year since the last chapter upload, which is especially frustrating because I'm in the home stretch; one interlude and three chapters left, and I know what I want in them, but the words won't come right now. Alas.
As for the rest of the stories, one is a new Skitchverse story, although that one is only about 200 words in with almost no outlining, so that's a ways off.
Two are being expanded from chapters in Silly Shorts for Silly Ponies, which itself has a new chapter percolating. The first is a "Good Neighbors" spin-off, which will ideally be an episodic comedy, but we'll see. The second, from "Meanwhile, In Another Universe..." is the finished version of the story that chapter came from, The Prince and his Five Good Friends. That's another rough outline, so it may be a while yet.
My Little Pony Adventure: Neck-and-Neck has hit a small bit of writer's block, and I am waiting for some writer's termites to get that taken care of. Only a couple chapters left in that one, too.
And finally, the mane event. I am working on a brand new story set within the Matterverse, and admittedly a completely new type of story outside of all my past attempts: A romance, which I have never written, and a series of vignettes, which I've also never tried (but decided to give a go after re-reading The House on Mango Street). I've been kicking the idea around even longer than A Matter of Interest has had words, but I only started to actually write it a month ago, while I was out in the desert being violently ill. I don't think there's a causal relationship, but James Cameron wrote The Terminator while laid up with malaria, so what do I know?
It will definitely be one of my shorter stories, probably ending up right around 10,000 words once finished (so really, the shortest one I'll have written besides The Hurricane's Roar), and will expand on the mythos some more, so it should be good fun for all. It will not, however, feature the Prince; it is not his story.
I'd like to have it done and ready by my birthday, but that's setting a pretty tight deadline, so we'll see.
