Adventures in homeownership · 6:17am Apr 14th, 2023
This week, I had installed a new air conditioner, me furnace, which followed on the heels of working through two outfits to secure financing, shelled out $200 for a new smart thermostat, still have to call the city to schedule an inspection for the work, have to call a plumber because the toilet is leaking again, and I still will never go back to renting of I have anything to say about it (which, given the current trajectory the world is on, I may not).
Yes, owning a house of your very own requires a lot more work then paying cash each month to some shade-adjacent character who will probably take care of all this stuff for you, but it affords you the ability to look at the new appliances you picked out yourself, the new, nearly impenetrable front door, and the new, energy efficient windows and say, "That was me. I did all that."
That was all, you can go back to bed now.
Renting is one of those things that should only ever be a temporary arrangement for when people need to live someplace for a few months to a few years. For anyone with the intent on staying in the same place for decades, however, that's when ownership should become the better choice.
...but, yeah, in the current state of things that can be a pretty big ask :-\
okay, but I never have to do yard work, that is worth its weight in gold :V
