Griffins · 5:09am Jan 31st, 2015
Hey, I need help!
My next arc for "A Midnight Stroll through Time" involves Griffins (and not in a positive light, mind you)
Griffins originate from Eurasian myths, including ancient Egyptian but they have also been prominently portrayed in the Middle Ages, particularly for their ferocity and in some myths are regarded as treasure guardians.
What I need here, is a cultural lifestyle for the griffins I'm planning to write. Remember, this is like... almost halfway through the thousand years Nightmare moon was imprisoned, so let's say the griffins are more barbaric back then. Oh I'll come out and hint it - The griffins I'm gonna show practice slavery.
I know a LOT of ancient societies practiced slavery, but the question I'm asking is which should I use? Greek? Norse? Not Egyptian, please.
The griffins I am gonna show are brutal and merciless, they view other species as inferior and consider themselves the peak of evolution (stemming from being a blend of lion, the king of beasts, and eagle, the king of birds).
i have the gist of what I'm planning layed out but I wanna throw in some griffon culture here.
Any suggestions?
The Roman culture could fit. The practiced slavery and have a history of violent acts against various people. For example, the Jewish.
2759285 I'm not inclined towards Roman culture. These griffons don't live in marble buildings, they prefer high mountains and foretresses
2759294 Hmmm, then Norse mythology may be a good choice. Since Norse mythology focuses on combat and battle this could fit very well. The location of their homes can play a major role in their culture as well. The idea of being "closer to their gods" comes to mind.
2759356 I read up a bit on them, but didn't see much useful or interesting, other than griffins mate for life and if their partner dies they go the rest of their lives alone
Why does everyone hate Griffons?
If the griffin uses a feudal system, viking would be better in my opinion, what you haft to remember is that slaves are in the minds of their masters are live stock, merchandise to be sold, have the right of life and death over their slave, with no risk of consequences to the former over the lather. also slaves have to be thoroughly broken in spirit, before starting to work. Slaves are in the and disposable and easily replaceable. if the master get baby from them,it is a bonus. from the slave you would easily find PTSD and stocum , in short perpetual fear toward their masters. I would also suggest that you uses horse training elements.
Maybe the Saxons?
Huns maybe?

Good job gilda!
I would say that the norse would fit best with the location that the griffons live. Additionally, as you already axed the Romans you can also axe the Greeks as they are almost the same; that and pegasi seem to have Greek influence(look at RD's house etc.). Also, I am assuming that the slaves will be ponies, or will the there be other species of slaves. If you have pony slaves you should use bits, bridles, riding crops for beatings. I would suggest gelding too but that would be a little to mature for the story I think. I doubt the griffons would want to ride them so spurs are out.
2761467 Well, I plan to have moments where the griffons pit slaves and monsters against each other in a coliseum, which is kinda roman.
Also, they capture other species to enslave too, and usually keep the genders apart.

that it is. I was just going off of you previous comment.
"Back then"? So, does mean the griffons have changed for the better in modern times? Please say yes.
Who are the slaves? Ponies? Griffons? And, another question, are all griffin's arrogant slave owner's or is it just these particular griffons?
