Magic of "Faerie Trail" · 1:31pm Aug 2nd, 2023
A while ago, I published my fantasy novel, Faerie Trail, as an E-Book and a Paperback.
Since then, I've been endeavoring to write three short stories starring my main characters separately, so as to give each of them individual limelight as well as use the short stories as an opportunity to introduce more content into the universe I am creating and hope to soon share with those who give my book and future works a chance. Due to this and that, I've taken my sweet time doing so, but the third short story is nearly finished and I plan to have them all published in the near future as the first of what I hope to be a companion book for my intended series, and then I will begin work on my actual sequel for Faerie Trail. (The idea of making short stories to accompany my main story line came from Rick Riordan's "The Demigod Files" and his "Percy Jackson and the Olympian" series).
There is much I have imagined and striven to shape and form from my sense of creativity, and I hope to share it all with you, my readers, whether you read my work here on FimFiction, or if you decide to pick up my book and dive into the introduction of my world.
So until then, I would like to share Magic, as I've defined it, in my "Faerie Trail Universe", starting with the following:
Mana Wielding
Symbol: A swirl pattern of Mana with small stars and sparkles
Every Mage learns the Art of Mana Wielding, which is to wield Mana (their own or otherwise) to perform a variety of abilities.
Every Mage starts learning magic by first mastering the basics of Mana Wielding, which is to build up their Thaumaturgical System and get their bodies used to having their awoken Mana flowing through themselves. Once this is done, a Mage’s magical abilities will grow stronger and enable them to more easily wield their magical powers, such as spellcasting, shapeshifting, etc.
In other words, the better a Mage is in Mana Wielding the more easily they will master their other magical skills and abilities.
Note: Mana Wielding was sorta inspired by Jedi learning to wield the powers of the Force
Magick Craft
Symbol: An open Spellbook surrounded by a Portal
Magick Craft is the Art and Study of Spells and the General Theory of Magic, specializing in the variable ways of casting and controlling spells, magical techniques, understanding the necessary workings of magicks and the terms of Conjuration (Summon, Teleportation, Apparitions, Replication), Abjuration (Counterspells, Vanishments), Animation, and General Spellcraft (Spellweaving, Linked Casting, Magick Circles, Rituals, Spell Components).
Note: Magick Craft got its name from the first Spyro game and the world-stage of the Magic Crafters, and it's intended purpose is to be Magic and Spells in General Study and Research
Alchemy
Symbol: A Potion Bottle, a Gear, and incomplete humanoid figure
Alchemy is a magical science that specializes in Potions (Concoctions, Enhancers, Elixirs, Antidotes, Transformation Potions, Love Potions, Potion Ingredients) , Transmutation, Tinkering (Magical Technology, Architecture, Inventions), Homunculi, and even Magical Culinary Arts.
Note: Alchemy being a "magical science" was to include more than just Potions and broaden the potential for magic with technology, chemistry, and even food as additional mediums.
Enchantment
Symbol: A Wand giving off a radiance of magical sparks
The Art of Enchantment is one of the most general and used of the magical arts, making use of the spells involved to imbue a magical effect onto a subject, and so focuses on Charms, Bewitchments, Compulsions, Seals, Attunement, and Disenchantment.
Note: Possibly my most ambitious category of magic, due to all the spells I made up for it. Because when you get past the idea of "enchanting" a person you realize the potential of enchanting the world around you.
Protection
Symbol: A Shield emblazoned with stars
The Art of Protection is the use of magic to protect something or someone from some form of harm, danger, or specific threats, utilizing Shield Spells, Wards, Barriers, and even Blessings.
Note: JK Rowling's "Defense Against the Dark Arts" was always too wordy for my tastes, so I opted for the sufficiency of a single word regarding this area of magic, and strove to make it one of my most dependable.
Transformation
Symbol: A Hand print halved by a flourish of magic into a Pawprint
The art of magically changing things from one thing into another, Transformation is a very serious and often difficult art of magic to learn and strict discipline is enforced in teaching it to impress a respect for the art so that it is not misused, and teaches Shapeshifting, Metamorphosis, Alteration, Enhancement, and Reversion.
Note: Changing a subject into something else entirely, like the old classic fairy tale trope of being turned into a toad. Not a fun idea, but shapeshifting into an eagle or a tiger or even a cute little bunny sounds much more exciting!
Herbalism
Symbol: A Tree with blossoms in bloom
The study of cultivating flora and vegetation magical or otherwise, Herbalism teaches of magical plants and some ordinary plants that still have beneficial properties, and how to care for and handle them, as well as make use of the various plants’ properties in the form of herbal remedies.
Note: This art was mostly inspired by JK Rowling's Herbology and her lovely character, Professor Pomona Sprout, Head of Hufflepuff. One must remember that plants of all kinds have their role in magical myths, lore, and tales, such as the Golden Apples of immortality, the Giant Beanstalk, and let's not forget the Tree of Life!
Illusion
Symbol: A Mirror reflecting a pair of Eyes
The Art of Illusion is a type of magic that is used to fool a target into perceiving something that is not real. The more physical senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell) an Illusion can fool the more powerful it is, these being Figments, Semblances, Glamour, Mirages, Phantasms, Hallucinations, and Residuals.
Note: Now when some hear magic and illusion, most refer to stagecraft illusions. I wanted to make illusion a true and impressive magical art, and took inspiration from several sources, like Genjutsu from "Naruto" and the Illusion Coven from "The Owl House", as well as Neopolitan's Overactive Imagination and Emerald's Hallucinations from "RWBY"
Divination
Symbol: An Eye within a Crystal Ball surrounded by interconnected Stars similar to a constellation forming a hand
Divination is the magical art to learn/reveal information that is hidden, forgotten, or unknown, to locate/track something or someone that is hidden/hiding, and of course to potentially foresee possible futures as well as peer into the past and perceive present events or phenomena beyond one’s physical senses, with such spells and methods being Scrying, Dowsing, Crystallomancy, Palmistry, Reading Tea Leaves, Astrology, Tarot Reading, and Dream Interpretation.
The arts that attempt to foresee/divine the future are regarded as inexact sciences among the magical arts, requiring a certain mind to determine the information gathered as accurately as they can.
Practitioners of Divination are called Diviners, Seers, Clairvoyants, and Oracles, but they don’t like being referred to as fortune tellers (they find the term derogatory).
Note: I always felt JK Rowling's presentation of Divination was underwhelming and even cliche in certain ways, especially with her character, Professor Sybill Trelawney, who I like but was also annoyed with. Divination, to a more creative mind, could mean so much more than just fortune telling.
Magical Creatures
Symbol: A Pawprint over Faerie Wings
The Study of Magical Creatures, which is vast and varied, based on different types of creatures there are in the magical world, and where and how they fit into it, dividing them between Creatures of the Wild, Dragonkind, Demons, Earthborn, Faeriekind, Giantkin, Magical Insects, Magical Marine Life, Undead, Spirts, and their pecking order.
Note: One of my favorite magical subjects, and one I had a great deal of fun working on and developing. Some of my creatures are classic, and some I made up or based on something else, and I took inspiration form multiple sources in developing my creatures.
I intend to share much of what I created in my future works, and can only ask your patience if you are of interest. I will be glad to take questions into my subject matter, but ask that you respect on whether or not I answer and how much I am willing to divulge depending on what you inquire.
I like the magic systems you made :)

There's more, of course. Like stuff about mastering magic, the nature of magic, magical items, and especially Laws of Magic

Can't wait to see what other magical items you come up with :)
