That shit wasn't cute or funny back when it was called a chain letter. It's just cancer. I will not do tags. I have already deleted three or four people tagging me on my profile page. Because it is cancer. It has absolutely nothing to do with ponies or fanfics or pony fanfics. I will continue to delete messages like that, just like I'll delete roleplaying or anything else that has nothing to do with fimfiction.

For sure. I've lately began expressing a desire for pones to not be so trendy. I think I can get along with almost any fan of the show (yes, even Rarity fans), but I just don't get "fans of the fandom" that seem to elevate segments of the fandom (foe; lyra+hands) over the show. Maybe I'm old, bitter, and stressed, but I really just want to read about happy pones poning pones happily.

Man, that feel. I mean, it's fairly hypocritical given the genre of most of what I write, but... if something doesn't maintain the *feel* of the show--if it's not happy and easy-going and cute--then I find it incredibly difficult to enjoy it as a fan-work.
On the other hand, I know I'm bitter. Mentioning things like the BronyCon documentary or the Thank You project to me is a fantastic way to elicit an unwanted rant. It really does seem like some people are legitimately in it for the fandom, not the show, and... that kinda makes me sad. The moment you replace the drama of cute horses cutely horsing around with dumb fandom drama, the magic dies, I think. It's a shame, because I really did used to enjoy the fandom once. Too many things have changed--not least myself.

I remember I misread the documentary as the "Brony Documentary" the first time I saw it. I was kinda excited. Then I realized it's just the con. Don't get me wrong, I loved going in September and would be going again were it not for babies. I didn't go to hang with the fandom. I went to meet a specific group of people, and they're the only reason I want to go back really.

Yeah, I can say there are loads of individuals I'd love to meet in person, and hopefully, with some of them, I will, one day.
But it ends at that. I really don't think a fandom, nor a con, needs a documentary--certainly not a self-funded one. I don't think there's any way it can come out unbiased, and then what's the point of it?

I do read serious fics. Especially serious ship fics. Within and Without, Romance Reports, The Games We Play, The Party Hasn't Ended, Off the Edge of the Map: all of these still feel like ponies. I _am_ tired of OMG SO SRS DRAMA fics, especially when it's "Oh noes, I am teh gay!"
The ultimate example of OMG SO SRS DRAMA is Dash loses her wings. I honestly question if people who write those watch the show. War fics fall under the umbrella of egregious bullshit I no longer read. We've seen how ponies do battle and Sparkle's Law is about the only fic to bother doing that right.
Stuff can get bad, dark even, and it can still feel like ponies. But when people start pulling in rape or murder and a constant tone of fear and hurt, well, that just makes me ctrl+w.
Example of stupid drama: Rainbow is worried about being gay and thinks that everyone will turn against her. Or perhaps, like one terrible POS fic I was just reminded of today, Dash and Twilight are blackmailed over something that merely makes it look like they're gay. Because the entire town is completely intolerant of that e.e
Example of pony drama (silly pones poning): Dash starts dating Pinkie. When she mentions to Spitfire she's dating somepony, Spitfire can't wait to catch some air with the lucky pony. Dash misunderstands Spit's use of Cloudsdale idiom to assume that not dating a pegasus is taboo... And the main six conspire to use magic and costume to make Pinkie Pie look like a pegasus and be able to fly long enough to go on a quick outing. Hijinks ensue. Misunderstanding is cleared up and then Spitfire is all "My mom's a unicorn."
Both fics have a theme of "intolerance", but one feels like ponies and one feels like generic teenage bullshit drama.
