Comedy! Whee! · 1:19am Apr 22nd, 2014
I don't usually write straight-up comedy, particularly not of the random variety. I'm more of a dramedy writer, putting funny bits into serious stories or mingling serious and funny, or else a drama writer, where if there's any comedy at all it's probably dark. Of the stuff I have out on this site, "Discord's First, Last and Only Friendship Report" and "Hit Me" are probably the only fics, prior to yesterday, that were really focused on comedy, and "Hit Me" is actually serious character development, it just features a lot of humor. ("Love, Friendship and Chaos" also has a lot of humor in amidst serious character development, but it's somewhat more serious than "Hit Me".)
So I am pleased to have "Robot Scootaloo" up in rotation, because now I have something where I can write short, random comedy bits to kickstart my writing on a daily basis, and then if I have time I can get back into a serious bit that day. I've been having a real problem lately getting started; I know what I want to write, but I can't bring myself to start doing it, because it's serious stuff that takes concentration and I just can't ramp into it. Having "Robot Scootaloo" bits I can do as warmups to get me started on writing in a day is more likely to allow me to actually get the serious stuff done.
Just read Robot Scootaloo last night. More random stories should be this fun.
I especially loved the bit when Twilight cast a spell and NOTHING went wrong.
Anyway, happy to see new stories, I'm excited to see what is next.
