No idea about Germany (or most of the other countries to be honest), but here in Sweden, sure.
More than a bit before my time, but I think the movie even did rather decently within our borders when it reached our cinemas. I'm not a big fan myself since I think a lot of his humor is a bit too dry, but Mel Brook movies are actually rather popular here in Sweden and tend to do well as rule of thumb.
