What is your very favorite first sentence of a story, and your very favorite first sentence of a story that you have made? · 7:30pm Feb 8th, 2014
I'm not quite sure about my favorite first sentence of someone else's story, but my favorite of my own is this:
Rarity jumped off the edge of the world, and the musician followed her.
What do you think?
Someone else's story?
~Mark Twain, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Of my own?
~Myself, Power Windows.
Other people's stories:
Playing With My Heart by obabscribbler.
Five Hundred Little Murders by Estee. Generally, the whole first paragraph is a masterpiece.
From my stories... Hmm... On one hand, I love the minimalistic opening of "A Kingdom Divided" (which is "Twilight gulped" ). But I'd say it's this one:
From my ABCs of Death collab entry. Too bad, it seems that the collab died (pun not intended). I think I'll publish it myself, it's too twisted to gather dust in my GDocs...
"Once, the world was dead. And I was alone."
Once, a story I am in the process of typing up.
None of my stories focus on a gripping first sentence, so I don't really have one.

Okay.
"The end"
My favorite I've done is in an unpublished work
"Rarity's eyes were full of dirt."
My favorite opening is from a short story called "Demarche to Iran" by Alexis Gilliland.
"Naked, the president lay on the table and screamed.
"Sensing his distress, the masseur lessened the pressure."
I've wanted to write an opening like that for a long time. Last year I finally did.
The fillies flew through the night sky, screaming and hanging on for dear life.
But eventually the ride came to an end. The roller-coaster came to a stop, and the girls all jumped out.
Thweet Geniuth
I've read so much that I don't really know what the first thing I read was.
First sentence I ever wrote in a story:
"Hello, I am Augustus Blue-Tail, a Wyvern."
That was written about four years ago.
...now I'm starting to feel all nostalgic and shit...
Well... it is your specialty...
