You know what? I think I'm in the mood to write some more - How Many Ponies Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb.

I officially get an F- at making blog posts. But hey! That's still two grades higher than what I get on math!

But yeah, more light bulb-ness coming soon. I'll be writing it when I'm not shoveling snow... four freaking feet of that crap.

What is the worst thing you have ever written?

A long while - four months ago - I wrote The Box of Jack. The idea was that this pony dude - Axis West - would go around searching for evil spirits in boxes all over the world. He became Princess Luna's student in the first chapter. I was going to write more of this, but three downvotes were enough to make me change my mind.

I suck - differently than you do

I was just reading this amazingly funny story, and thinking to myself how much my writing paled in comparison to what I was reading and lol-ing at. And then I realized...

    What's that? Seven stories?

Woo! The big seven! A number nobody really celebrates. Well why not? Seven is such an amazing number. Seven is the day of the month in which I was born. Seven is when I learned to ride a bike. Seven ate nine. Seven has swag, yo.

You've gotta admit - yes, you - that seven is a cool number.

    Why do you write?

I should write more 500-2k word blog posts, but I've found that I get far more views and comments when I ask a simple question. I'll post more fun, somewhat interesting (maybe) blog posts, but for now, why? Why do you continue to play this writing game? You tell me and I'll tell you.

I suck - differently than you do · 4:50pm Feb 11th, 2014

I was just reading this amazingly funny story, and thinking to myself how much my writing paled in comparison to what I was reading and lol-ing at. And then I realized...

Huh. My writing sucks compared to this, because this isn't my writing, and I am not this writer. I'm not going to ever be a better that-writer than that writer is. My work will always be different. And people will like what I create for different reasons than the reasons I like what others have created. I am sure of this.

Why? Everyone is different. Even if they enjoyed similar aspects of my work than the aspects of my work I enjoy, I think they would still see it differently than I do. They didn't write it, so they aren't attached to it at all unless they find some form of enjoyment in it.

They aren't necessarily looking for errors when they read it, as much as they are something interesting to read. The reader probably doesn't care how many times I've rewritten something to make it flow better, because all they even want is to find enjoyment in the story they are reading.

I must stop comparing myself to others. In fact, I shouldn't compare myself to anyone at all. I'm at a different point in my life than they are, and they're in a different point in their life than I am. Their life is theirs. I'm learning, and not doing too horribly, actually. Maybe they write something better than I do, or maybe they write everything better than I do, but I write my writings as me, better than they would write my writings as me. I'm the worst me there is, and I like that.

Wanna know why I'm advancing so quickly-ish? I have a ton of free time. Like, a ton. Perhaps too much. Don't compare. You're infinitely better at being you than I could ever hope to be.

My father always taught me, "Trying to be better than someone else will always disappoint you. Be better than yourself."

I think what that means is, you strive to do better every single time you try. To be better than you were the day before, not just in writing, but in everything.

That's what I think anyway.:pinkiehappy:

I think what you think is beautiful.

You have achieved a certain level of wisdom. Good.

While I absolutely agree, my personal philosophy is this.

Surpass your idols, but do so with your own style. :ajsmug:

Good stuff. I have to constantly remind myself of this.

That's deep bro, you deserve one of these :pinkiehappy:
