Why do you write? · 8:20pm Feb 9th, 2014
I should write more 500-2k word blog posts, but I've found that I get far more views and comments when I ask a simple question. I'll post more fun, somewhat interesting (maybe) blog posts, but for now, why? Why do you continue to play this writing game? You tell me and I'll tell you.
I write because it is fun, and because I love reading, and because there are some brilliant writers and I want to be a brilliant writer some day.
I write because I love to do it, simply put
i write because it takes away sadness from me and the divorce of my parents, because i love to share my ideas with people, and i love when people like my mlp related stories, and even none pony related.-SmileHDFan

I write because I want to put out any ideas I have, whether or not they suck.
Trick question: I don't, at least, not anymore, not since I realized I suck at it.

Yes. If you choose to embark on the journey of writing, you're going to suck for a while. But you'll get better. Write if you enjoy it; don't just stop 'cause you aren't the best.
You know one half of it. The other half is because it's nice to be able to channel all my energy into something worthwhile. It's comforting. It's fun to create worlds and stories, to sit down at a computer and type until my arms ache and my eyes are heavy. It's fun.
Basically, took the words right out of my mouth.
Is that a felony?

It's not that I want to be the best, I fully acknowledge that'll never happen, it's not even that I don't enjoy it, because I do, at least to some extent, but because i can't do it justice. I've been trying to 'get better' for years now, and I never do. I always catch myself doing the same stupid shit when I first started writing.
Because when I once started, there is no end. I wrote one idea that had to come out and now I'm trapped...
I am at a peculiar point in my life where my constant depression and fear of where humanity is going mix weirdly with a desire to write about it. So, I write about it. It doesn't make me feel much better, but I pretend it does.

Because the world needs to read about your awesomeness.
1815720 yup, that too!
1815642
No.
1815748 I knew it!
I hate it when people ask me this... 'cause despite having written a novel, a novella, and a plethora of short stories and poetry, I still don't know why I write.

Then maybe it's time to find out. Perhaps.
1815998 I guess you're right...

Screw all the crap I said earlier. I write because I have a story to tell.
1816127 That seems to be a good reason.
Stephen King has stated that you write because it saves you from feeling bad. That's definitely true, at least for me. When I don't write for several days my self-worth takes a sizable hit. When I tell my fans that I'm working on another story and they tell me they can't wait to see it, that really lights a fire under my ass.
I'll be back to writing tonight, because the fire needs to be quenched. But it never stays that way for long, does it?

Good point, and to answer your question, nope.
