So, new episode. Spoilers below...

MS. Harshwinny returns, and she's awesome. But Dash is more awesome. This season is so far really heavy on awesome!Dash. Not complaining, mind you, just musing.

Never stop being adorable, Dashie.

Jeez, the facial animations!! For real, they just keep stepping up their game.

Aww, no flashback to epicute filly Dashie?

I swear to retarded baby Jesus on Roller Blades, I hate Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Not just the characters, but the very concept. They are becoming such bitches, and now racist.

The song was... meh. I liked it, but it wasn't anything to write home about.

Presented without comment...

OH, MY FUCKING GOD, SCOOTALOO LIVES IN A MEDIUM-SIZED HOUSE! Not and orphanage(because when was the last time you saw an orphanage with only two floors where the kids get their own room), not a cardboard Box, not an abandoned restaurant (Sorry, Eakin), but an actual goddamn house.

Suck it, Scootaorphans.

The whole "Scootaloo can/cannot fly" thing was kind of skirted around. I know Lauren Faust said she originally planned for her to be disabled, but we've seen the current ashow runners break from her headcanon many times. I just think it'd be better to see her accept her disability and realize she's still as awesome as ever. Which she kinda did, but still. The show should have had some balls and just said "She will never fly." It'd be really cool to see a character who is disabled and not completely framed by it, or has identity outside of it. When was the last time you saw a character in a kid's show who was disabled and little to no attention was paid to it? Garrett from Extreme Ghostbusters? Which was an awesome show, btw.

So, Scootaloo scoots across the entire nation dragging two ponies, performs tricks in front of thousands of ponies, and STILL no cutie mark?!

SO, yeah, This was an awesome episode. Not my favorite of the season, but still damn good. However, the best part of the episode was the preview for the next one:

FLUTTERHULK SMASH!!! Seriously, my eyes 'bout popped outta my head.

Did anyone else notice the fact they had Dr. Whooves and Roseluck walk out of the same house in the episode? I did.......................................... Well I guess that proves Derpy isn't the pony version of Rose Tyler.:applejackunsure:

They're taunting us.

I actually really love Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. I find them so delightfully bitchy. I don't know what it is, but I can't help but like them, even as they're horrible, spoiled little brats.

1606002
Maybe she is and Roseluck is pony Amy Pond?

1605980
When she looked at her flank all expectant like I actually started sitting up and leaning forwards and then BAM...nothing. Status quo strikes again, more viciously than ever before.

1606056 With a name like Roseluck and considering it was the Doctor Whooves who looks like David Tennant, I don't think so

1606060
I confess to barely knowing who Rose Tyler and Amy Pond are. I don't actually watch Doctor Who, I just spent enough time on TV Tropes to get a vague idea.

With that in mind, wasn't Rose Tyler around during Tennant's run? Or am I getting her confused with River Song or someone?

The whole "Scootaloo can/cannot fly" thing was kind of skirted around.

I actually thought they handled it beautifully this episode.

1606091
Okay, that makes sense. Also, if you want to continue believing that Derpy is the pony Rose Tyler, you could just assume that Roseluck was visiting Derpy and the Doctor was seeing her out afterwards or something. I make up little explanations like that all the time when something I don't like happens (usually a character behaving oddly without reason).

So does the TARDIS look different after each regeneration the Doctor goes through, or is that just the lighting in those pictures making it look that way?

1606279
I was kind of surprised by that, actually. Not in a bad way, mind you. I'm so used to things the fans have speculated endlessly on casually getting destroyed by canon that seeing the writers acknowledge a common fan theory like that wasn't expected. Like when Luna showed up and didn't spend the whole episode being racked with guilt over the "eternal night" thing; it was entirely unrelated to what the fans had collectively decided Luna would be like (she even got a visual update). I'm especially surprised by the implication that crippled ponies exist, since the writers seem willing to prioritize "magical fantasy land" over realism. That sounds like criticism, but it's not. The show is still meant for little girls primarily, after all.

So, Scootaloo scoots across the entire nation dragging two ponies

I write that off as an off-screen transition.

Though, why did Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle use skis, and not something with wheels? (wagon, skates, etc.) I don't get that

1606325 Oh there are subtle differences. More so in the newer series. The TARDIS still keeps the same overall look, English police box from the 50's-60's, but there are subtle changes here and there between some of the regenerations. You'll notice 11's TARDIS has a sticker on it.

So yeah it's only changes someone would notice if they're really observant or have been watching the show long enough to notice. The enterior changes quite a bit though as it's gone from this

They explain that as a "desktop theme" though, so really it's just the Doctor changing his wallpaper so to speak. :rainbowlaugh:

1606366
...The Doctor has cooler wallpaper than I do.

1606326 But they were only going to the stadium for a competition to see who would be Ponyville's flagbearer, yes? Why would that competition be all the way in the Crystal Empire?

(Though it was not in Ponyville, because they needed to take the train, it doesn't have to be all the way across the country)

1606480
actually Ms. Harsh-Whinny said they were, in fact, going to compete in the Crystal Empire Stadium. My guess is that it wasn't ONLY Ponyville ponies who were there. I think all the other regions sent their own groups of fillies and colts to compete with each other. Basically making the whole flag-waver selection process like another event of the Games.

As for Scootaloo driving them clear across the country ..... :rainbowhuh:

.... ehh ... i got noth'n:rainbowderp:

1606480
Maybe the judges for the flag-bearers judge every town. I'm thinking how different TV competitions have their try-outs at a city to cover an entire region.

1607039 I thought she said the winners would go on to participate (?) in the games, but I don't recall her saying where the competition to be the flag-bearer was. I'll just have to re-watch.

1607684 Ponyville always had a "small town" vibe, so I imagine their biggest stadium would be the high school hoofball field. :ajsmug:

But then: I also got the impression that the nearest city would be Canterlot (from the maps, and from the fact that you can see the Canterlot skyline from a tall hill in Ponyville. Also average travel time.) Which means the regional would most likely have been in Canterlot. Maybe the stadium is new so they built it on the outskirts?

When was the last time you saw a character in a kid's show who was disabled and little to no attention was paid to it?

I think there was a show on PBS...yeah it was...Maya and Megal or something like that. It was a show about two twins...an one of their friends was an amputee. There was the first episode when the character was introduced when it was noted, that yes he didn't have his lower arm on one side, but besides that one episode I don't think it was ever noted again. Ever.

"crosses fingers" Please please please writers, do not reduce Spike to something both incompetent and ruin his actual character for the sake of cheap humor like in Spike at your Service........ :raritydespair:
Throw the guy a bone for once!!!!!
Bad choice of words

Garrett was mothab**king epic.

1608011 I agree.
The only reason (I see) to go to the Crystal Empire instead of Canterlot would be because the Crystal Empire is the host of the next Equestria Games.

1609044

Yes, he was. And the best part was his disability was almost never an issue. They never made a big deal about, "I can do everything you can!" He just... did it. I mean, there was one episode where he had to carried down a huge set of stairs, but it was used to comedic effect, and it worked.

I see we are in agreement over Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.

Scootaloo could still be an orphan and adopted.

I go more in depth in my own review of this episode on my own blog.

Okay, so yeah I agree with you fully on this... Except the song, I kinda liked the song. Also: DIAAAAAAMOOOONDDDD TIARAAAAA! By Celestia I wanna burn her on a bonfire. I swear that little filly is nothing but pure evil.

Also...She teased Scoots for not being able to fly even though she is a pegasus. Well... That was a stupid move. I mean seriously? Teasing Scoots for not being able to fly when she herself is a FRILLY earth pony. Really? You're gonna tease someone for not having one of the prime characteristichs of her tribe when you as an EARTH PONY haven't done any kind of hard work... Geez what a hypocrite.

Two words: Foster home. :trollestia:

Anyways, great episode.
