Cadance of Cloudsdale (so far) now in Spanish!

Thanks to the generous SPANIARD KIWI, the text of Cadance of Cloudsdale so far is now in Spanish! Mr. Kiwi has done a tremendous amount of work translating many of my stories into Spanish, but this goes above and beyond. If you're curious, you may visit the project so far here at this

    Happy Cadance Day 2024!

Things feel a bit subdued today, due to the coincidence of Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday through a quirk of the liturgical calendar. It is somewhat difficult to juxtapose the splash of corporate-encouraged love with the festival that literally exists to remind us of our mortality. The pink of Valentine's washes against the purple of Lent. So I'm in a pensive mood, more so than usual on this

    Ciderfest is a wrap!

Just got home from PVCF and it was an amazing con experience! The minific-based ARG that circulated around the con the whole weekend was high-concept, and I was worried about engagement, but everyone seemed to really get into searching out the hard-to-find stories concealed around the convention hall (in places as obscure as "the desktop wallpaper on one of the monitors in the video game room,

"A Princess by Any Other Name" - Part of the "Cadance of Cloudsdale" cycle · 12:43am May 3rd, 2013

"Cadance of Cloudsdale" continues today with "A Princess by Any Other Name". Finally, we get to the reason I wanted to do this work as a cycle rather than a single long story, because, as you will see, I've taken the opportunity to play with the style in a deliberate attempt to mimic my esteemed colleague Ghost of Heraclitus for a time. Fans of the Civil Service series should like this one.

Oooo, sounds great!

Can't wait 'til I have time to read it!

Judging by the picture image, I have to wonder if the "æ" gets involved.

Not quite, but with all the confusion over the poor girl's name, I'm thinking you're on to something with the idea of just making "Cadænce" fanonical and running with it.

Looking forward to it

And yeah, whenever I write Cadence's name, I get all nervous I'm spelling it wrong compared to the more common usage, which I can never remember (and honestly I don't think there is one that's more common *shrugs*)

So...how many stories do you have planned for this whole thing??

I'd estimate it would take about ten to tell the story properly, and the last will be a longer one than a simple one-shot. That's just pulling a number out of the air, though. Hopefully I do not crap out before then.

Oh wow, so you're really aiming for a kind of large, comprehensive story then; and I can already see it in how you've covered different periods of her life, and shown her at very different ages (I'm guessing anyway, still haven't read the new ones.....)

So is one of your goals with this to, how do I put it...give us this big, clear picture of who Cadence really IS (in your mind); where by the time it's all over, we'll feel like we know her as well as you can know anybody--perhaps even more so? I get the sense that you're using this cycle approach to give us a depth of insight and character that isn't easily done in your traditional fic. I imagine (without putting words in your mouth) that you aim to give the most comprehensive, all encompassing vision of Cadence yet. (though it might not be a specific goal to "be the best" as it were)

Anyway, the prospect of following Cadence through this sort of life journey (unless I'm getting something wrong), seeing how she changes over time, as well as those around her: it's very exciting. And yeah, it's a tall order for sure: but take it from someone who's given himself a very tall order for over a year now (and kind of lives on them)--you can do it. And I say that seriously.

How much do you have these all planned out? Ten interconnected stories is a lot to work out: I'm assuming you've got together a pretty cohesive plan for it all--but then again, maybe that's not how you work.

I know where the story is going, and I know the answer to the unifying question. Some bits on the way there are still a little hazy.

"As well as you can know anybody" is a little much, methinks. :pinkiehappy: Really, all this is is a massive headcanonical dump of ideas that got seeded the moment (I thought) I saw the first official picture of the Mysterious New Alicorn. Which, ah, turned out to be a piece of fan-art, in the end.

Finally, we get an in-story explanation for your persistent refusal to acknowledge the infallibility of toy-canon! :raritywink:

I was keeping kind of mum. :pinkiehappy:

:trollestia:
Life, it'll get ya every time. Guess we owe that fan art some thanks in all of this.

Anyway, that may not be what you were aiming for, but I think if you have a single "thread" through all of your stories, and depending on how you end it, that might still be a feeling many of your readers get anyway (myself included). I mean, we'll have read around ten interconnected stories focusing on the same pony, through many different times in her life. I don't see how we could walk away from the finished work and not feel a deeper sense of familiarity with Cadence (beyond what we might typically get)--that yes, this is how she is, and who she is, and this is how people are, and how they change and we all change.

I mean yeah for you it's "here's my headcanon" but depending on how you play those cards of yours, it might be a bit bigger than that in it's scope--in how it comes across as a final product I mean.

*shrugs* maybe I'm just spoutin a lot of hooey.
