This Calls for my Formal Pony T-Shirt · 11:05pm May 1st, 2013
Over twenty years ago now:
After having a story take third place in the 1991 Writers of the Future contest and selling two other talking animal stories to Asimov's SF magazine the next year, I joined SFWA, the Science-fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. Not long after that, I started coordinating their Circulating Book Plan, a way for SFWA members to get a look at a certain percentage of the SF books being published so they'll be familiar with what's out there when it comes time to send in nominations for the Nebula Awards.
Well, because I've been hanging around so long keeping a desultory eye on the Plan, SFWA has decided to give me their Kevin O'Donnell Jr. Service to SFWA Award at the Nebula banquet in a couple weeks up in San Jose, CA. So my Pinkie Pie Paint Splatter shirt, I'm thinking...

Congrats! That's so exciting!
More than your award, I'm impressed by your project. I've always wondered how the SFWA handles that- it would seem like it would become a circle of "big name author gets read a lot - voters are more likely to have read big name author - big name author wins and gets a bigger name." It's wonderful to know that there's someone making sure that other books have a shot. So, from a fan and writer of the genre, thank you!
Quite so, quite so.
Congratulations on the award, and I agree that it calls for a Pinkie Pie shirt. I'm sure there must be some fellow Bronies in the SFWA.
Awesome! And, yes, the Pinkie Pie shirt would be a great choice.
Hell yeah! Huge congratulations, man!
Dude:
You are a senior member of SFWA, specialized on stories about talking animals.
What is so surprising about a community of amateur writers, one specialized on talking animals, just loving your work?
BTW, I believe that my very favourite story on this site, after the Past Sins saga, is An Infinite Number of Pinkie Pies. I don't even know how many times have I read the last two chapters.
Picatures please? also a thousand congratulations!
Hooray!

I've found the program:
Extremely handy, and I'm kind of surprised that more SFWA members and publishers don't take part in it. When your book comes out, if your publisher can spare 9 copies, let me know, and I'll get you the addresses to send 'em to. No guarantees, of course, but at least it's a way of getting the book out among folks who like to read.

Thanks! Several other folks have suggested something with Discord or Rarity as being appropriate, but, well, I don't have any shirts with either of them to begin with, and I think Pinkie kinda splits the difference between the two of them--not too far one way nor too far the other...

The last couple Nebula banquets, I think, they've had a livestream of it up on the SFWA web site. Pretty scary!
