Is it just me or the whole cutie mark on their cheeks, that's the face cheeks, is an alien like concept?

I mean you go look at ponies, face, mane, eyes and such, but when all fails to identify it you just look at its butt and BAM you know who it is or least what kind of pony that would be, helps interaction.

Also I fear the onslaught of "do I have something on my face?" and the "cheeks = butt cheeks" jokes. (Im aware of the irony, thank you regardless)
