    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

Things I hate, Pt. II · 6:24pm Feb 1st, 2013

Using moderator powers to lock a thread. I hate it when threads get locked on message boards, but then again usually that hatred is born from the fact that we've merely drifted off-topic. The discussion might still be reasonably civil, but because it's off-topic, the thread is locked. I hate that.

But I just now locked a thread not because it was drifting off-topic - though it had - but rather because it was increasingly uncivil, mean-spirited, and just all around unfun for everyone. And while I know I did the right thing, I still don't like that I had to lock a thread to do it.

Sorry, this might seem small, but for me it's a pretty big thing.

*sigh*

Power is a curse, unfortunately.

this gift is my curse for now, to quote Yellowcard

Personally I'd just leave the thread open to see just how uncivil things could get, really all your doing to suppressing/redirecting their rage upon yourself. Also you've ruined the lulz, jerk.

Yeah...no. See, it basically was an argument that's been going on and off and on again for months now. No one will ever make any progress in it, all that's going to happen is people get increasingly angry at each other until sooner or later someone is going to do something stupid.

782416
I'm sorry too - for being a slow writer. If I wasn't then we'd already be in Crisis or maybe even past Crisis. If I was faster than I could have handled "A Chance Encounter" myself and we'd all have a much clearer image of Twilight. If I was a faster - and better - writer than I could have more firmly established what I wanted the Night Court to be like and just...basically done everything better.

*sigh*

Managing AUs is hard, especially when you're probably not nearly a talented enough writer than you should be doing such.

782407 Power is a tool, as dangerous as an open flame. It can warm the hearth, or burn down the entire home.

782432

No one will ever make any progress in it, all that's going to happen is people get increasingly angry at each other until sooner or later someone is going to do something stupi.

Yeah, I did something stupi once. All I can remember is it involving a watermelon and fifty cases of Diet Coke.

...That was a joke.

782435
...is it also an anecdote? Because if there's a larger story to it, it sounds potentially hilarious.

782432

Stop that. The fact is, none of us are probably talented enough to pull this off. But you know what? That doesn't matter. We care about what we do, and that's good enough.

The whole thing is hitting me especially hard. I created the Lunaverse. Meaning no one would be here without me - but also meaning that no one would be fighting without me. I know that I couldn't possibly have predicted some of what would happen when I was writing Boast Busted, but I also still can't help but feel a measure of responsibility.

782450

Like I said, you care. and that's good enough.

782432
You're one of the fastest writers I follow. I can look forward to an update of your stories every few days, whereas with things like A Still More Glorious Dawn Awaits, I can look forward to them maybe every month, or longer. And I just updated one of my stories for the first time in months. I think you write at a very good speed, especially considering that this isn't your full-time job, especially at your level of quality.

782464
See, the thing is, I have myself to compare to. I finished Boast Busted in a matter of about four days. I finished Longest Night, Longest Day in about two months, which given that it was much more epic in scope and four times as long as BB, is reasonable. Family Matters was also completed in a short time. But starting wit Helping Hands and An Early Reunion, I slowed down considerably. The average time between chapters of At the Grand Galloping Gala has been two weeks - and they're not long chapters, four thousand words at most on average, not long enough to justify the wait, at least not to myself.

Don't blame yourself. And you're a great writer and fast, too. A lot faster than i am. A shared universe involves disparate personalities. Lord knows I'm one of those. ;)

782432
Fair enough (What's wrong with people doing stupid things? it's usually hilarious)

782450 dont feel too bad about locking the thread sometimes it is better to for everyone to cooldown a little and without you we would simply be fighting in another group . about writing speed relax you are not a machine , maybe it is hard for you to write at the grand galoping gala because of the huge expectactions everyone in the group has for that story and you feel the presure .
and if you think that a chance encounter it is essential for crisis maybe just a few flashbacks in crisis would suffice ( it would make look like a quentin tarantino movie)

I know the feeling, man. Moderating is a hard job, but the site would fall apart without guys like us. You WILL make some people mad. You WILL make mistakes. Just rest assured knowing that, in the end, you'll do the right thing. You wouldn't be a mod if that weren't true.

I sucks when you're forced to be the tough guy, but as a humble fan, I've got agree that there are better uses to put all that energy to.

<starts passing out "I Believe in RDD" buttons.>

Thanks all. :)

782609
Well, I'm not actually a site moderator...I just am the administrator of the Lunaverse group and so therefore have mod-like powers there.

I'm, like, a baron. Moderators are dukes.

Anyway. To cheer myself up, I just wrote up Stormy Squall as a pathfinder character!

GUNS.

Wow, now there's a thread I'm glad I missed, I did not need the stress of participating in it. That said, I went ahead and spoiled myself on the revealed spoilers, and while part of me wishes I hadn't the other part of me is happier than I've been with the Lunaverse since reading Boast Busted.

We all have to make choices DoubleDash. I'm certain that you did the right thing deleting it. And don't treat yourself like that (unless it sarcasm), like Anton Ego said:

Not everyone can become the great artist, but the great artist can come from anywhere.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. It's sort of a thankless job, but I'm glad you stepped in and did what needed to be done, and I'm sorry for the part I played in making it necessary (though of course it's the other posters in that thread I probably owe a greater apology to).

I suppose arguments like this are sort of inevitable since the group is made up not just of fans, but also contributing authors, and so the lines between official L!canon, hypothetical speculation, meta-humor, and just plain old personal head-canon all blur together in a way that can turn debates dangerously personal. We aren't just fans debating how to interpret the events, but creative minds hoping to exert influence on the setting. Most of the time I like to think that arrangement works pretty well, but every so often there are some sticky spots.

782655
You do realize that now the whole Lunaverse-Author-Six will need RPG stats. :raritywink:

Such a sad pony... That picture just begs for forgiveness. And that Simple Plan song.

"How could this happen to me..."

I'm so sorry that you had to do that hopefully this will serve as a reminder and wake up call to those of us who tend to let out passion get away from us. I sincerely apologize for my part in those debates.
As for writing speed, you are an extremely fast and brilliantly skilled author and there are so many competing factors in a persons life that you nor anyone can expect to be able to work at the same pace at all times, it's good to put effort into being better than your best but there's only so much anyone can do with so many hours in a day.
Besides if we didn't have the Lunaverse we would all be arguing or in my case lurking in different forums, this is the first group I've ever joined or actively participated in and it's awesome! :pinkiehappy: in L!verse we do like one another despite disputes and care about the L!verse even if it does get away form us a bit sometimes, but we area all responsible for our own actions.
Besides that managing something like this is hard for anyone and you don't like wielding authority which makes you the best person to have it, still sorry it's so difficult.

782625
Can I have one of those buttons?

783830 Sure!

With abject apologies to Pixelkitties and the owners of any eyes that come into contact with.this ghastly hack job..

784906
That right there is pure awesomeness, thanks! I shall wear it with pride... once the digitization and solidification procedure starts working properly :pinkiehappy:

785036 'What?! Dammit, I know we should haven gone with "I'm Sparticus!" treatment.'

785036

no, Harvey Dent did not die, and this is not some master plan for something or other.

783429
But who's gonna be the new Spike?

785788
Dunno. Back when he was still a prinny, Blackbelt was the prime candidate, but he took objection to the role for some reason or another.

785036
...and now I almost wish there was an ask Stormy Squall tumblr.

783830

in L!verse we do like one another despite disputes and care about the L!verse even if it does get away form us a bit sometimes, but we area all responsible for our own actions.

There is a reason I find the Hearth Carol by far the most meaningful song in the show. Sure it might not have as catchy a beat as something like Smile-Smile-Smile, the grand epic scale of At the Gala, or even the simple whimsy of Giggle at the Ghostly, but I still hold that NO other song so fully encapsulates what it means to be a brony.

Quarrels will always arise, but so long as we continue to stoke the fires of love and tolerance, we can and will remain a circle of friends united by ponies.

785969
Hmm....how about me?

I'm glad you could do it. As the creator of the Lunaverse I think you should feel free to put your foot down
