State of the Writer, April 2024!

    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

MagnetBolt could use some help!

And since I've been a bit under the weather today and stayed home from my usual friend gathering, I wanted to whip up five short story reviews so I could get this signal boosted for y'all! Good timing, that.

The Circle of Life by Admiral Biscuit
Genre: Random 2P HiE? PoE? Hard to say
Filly Anon clogs the toilet. Again.
Well'p. It's a thousand word story about pony poop. You ever thought you wanted a tiny horse roommate in your house? Here's probably why you don't. Not sure why Biscuit decided to use Filly Anon though…

Princess JSF Goes for a Walk by JumpingShinyFrogs
Genre: Trollfic
Mostly, she's just trying to get laid.
JumpingShinyFrogs is the author of the excellent School Trip, so when I saw she had a clearly tongue-in-cheek self-insert comedy in her gallery, well! Just had to see what that was all about. And, well, it's about what you'd expect, though clearly JSF is too good a writer to write a really trolly trollfic. ;) This suffices for laughs with a couple really strong gags and a solid skewering of the Mary Sue trope.

Judgment Day by CategoricalGrant
Genre: Random Comedy
Starlight Glimmer never knew her mother. Just what is Twilight hiding?
I gotta say, the whole time, I was figuring the answer was "Twilight". I'm very pleased to say I was wrong. :) The story itself is all right, but the reveal got a big laugh out of me, what a great idea.

A Life Full of Love by Regidar
Genre: Romance
One day, Lyra returned to Ponyville and realized nopony was living anymore.
Damn. In the middle of this short piece is a brief but sensual scene of Lyra and Bon-Bon like… making out, maybe something more, I'm not sure. It's told in sensations, not descriptions of action, and it is really good. c_c Gave me the shivers. Hot damn. But yes, this is quite a good little piece, introspective without being navel-gazing, melancholy without being morose, and ultimately with a happy and hopeful ending. Plus it's about one of the best couples ever, from before they were "officially" a couple!

How It Burns by Lumina Faith
Genre: EQG Drama
It burns.
Really quickly, this is a day-in-the-life of Sunset suffering from the worst extremes of a fairly common skin malady. The reasons for why are actually pretty interesting, as is where the author took things. You can tell from the writing that they've personally experienced, and they sadly have. You can't end up with something this intense from guesswork or research alone!

That last one now makes me want to see Spike as a vector for transmitting mange from the human world to Equestria's dragons.

Well'p. It's a thousand word story about pony poop.

The fandom has put out some truly incredible works of art. :fluttercry:

I saw that. Yeah, fibrous nuggets and plumbing don't mesh well.
