Ha Ha, Oh Wow · 4:31pm Dec 19th, 2012

Can you imagine if any of the people associated with the show actually read any of the stuff here or at the PFA, etc?

I gave a copy of The Story of My Life to the author of The Last Roundup. Doubt she read it.:rainbowlaugh:

But yeah, it'd be different, because it's not actually the Mane Six reading these fanfics, it's the creators and authors of the episodes.

Yeah, it's not quite as... weird... since these're fanfics about characters, not the actors themselves.

I could totally see someone writing a fanfic about Tara Strong though.

Well, this site does have Lauren Faust fanfiction.

Tabitha St. Germain has the "Fallout: Equestria" box set. I suspect others have poked around, if just out of curiosity.

I really don't think it's good to write about real people without their permission, though.

I thought it was really freakin' weird when I found out people did that. Happens a lot to bands, too!

You know, I've wondered what Ashleigh Ball thinks about AppleDash shipping, and how much she'd charge to do a reading of a short AppleDash fic. I'd never contact her though, that sounds like a good way to get sued by Hasbro.

Wouldn't it be amazing to have an audiobook done of some great fic with all the real VAs?

628904
Absolutely. Any author would kill for that.

oh god how I wish I could see the show cast and have those guys read off fanfic descriptions and stuff to them see what they say about all the stuff people write about the characters they voice! (I'd pay anything to hear Tabitha comment on those LOL!)

Which is why it'd likely never happen to an author unless he or she was a personal friend of the cast, and it'd definitely never be published to the internet. It'd show favoritism, and there'd be a backlash. I mean, one can only imagine the butthurt if there was a reading by the VAs of something like My Little Dashie, or Past Sins.

Of course, if they were to do a reading of a really BAD fic...:trollestia:

I'd love to see it done with a fic that's completely in line with the show, like Sunny Skies All Day Long or maybe even Half the Day is Night.

631213 They might as well hire the author and make him or her a writer for the actual show at that point, or just convert the fic into an episode.

Again. All the fandom has to do is wait until we have enough talent to make our own episodes from scratch, essentially rendering us self-sufficient as long as whatever organization that makes the episodes remains nonprofit.

631219
Nonprofit may or may not work. If Hasbro can prove that they're losing money, or might be losing money off the fan content, they can shut people down. So if a fan made episode was as good as the show, Hasbro could claim people might watch it instead of the show.

Now, this is a touchy legal place. It's never actually been brought to court, and there's reason to believe that fan content (all of it, art, fics, animation) might fall into the category of "transformitive works." The Organization for Transformative Works has a good FAQ about that. The downside to that argument is that the closer it is to the show, the less transformitive it is and the shakier the legal ground.

631253 Well, we'll cross that bridge when we get there, I suppose. I mean, all of this would really only be a problem after the actual show itself has ended, which, given how popular it is on the Hub, doesn't seem like a possibility in the near future.
