Plot Bunny Theater: Fixing Flash Sentry... Again · 4:39am Jul 9th, 2023
One of the most frustrating parts about Flash Sentry is that he was made WAY too bland. So bland that there wasn't a reason for Twilight to actually fall for him. Not until later movies and episodes actually GAVE him some.
So, what's the easiest way to fix this? Simple! Flash Sentry takes Twilight and Spike into his house. He's their guide to the human world. He is just kind and helpful to them. He doesn't buy Twilight's excuses but he does know she's a good person. Have him contribute to the final battle in some way beyond just being a useless damsel in distress.
Of course, one consequence you might pursue in fanfiction, of a teenaged girl and a teenaged boy (aged up to be legal, of course) sharing a house together...
Twilight Sparkle is examined by Nurse Redheart after she got back from the human world
Twilight: "So uh... Am I okay, Nurse Redheart?"
Redheart: "Yes. Though you'll want to watch your diet and not over exert yourself for eleven months."
Twilight: "Eleven...?"
Redheart: "You're pregnant."
Outside the clinic...
Twilight: "I'M WHAT?!"
Dash: "BWAHAHAHAHA! I KNEW IT! 'Dancing', sure, that's what they all call it! Way to go, Egghead!"
AJ: "Huh...So do we need to drag that polecat over to make an honest mare of ya?"
Twilight: "He's not-I didn't-I-I mean-!"
Spike: "HE DID WHAT?! I"LL RIP HIS BALLS OFF!"
Twilight: "No! Spike, he didntt force me or anything! I-I mean... Honestly, I kind of wanted it."
Rarity: "Kind of-?"
Twilight: "OKAY I REALLY WANTED IT! SHEESH!"
Pinkie: "Did Spike just grow 6 inches?"
Twilight: "He was very sweet! And it was...!" goofy grin
Dash: "Huh! No wonder you've been less stressed out!"
Fluttershy: "No, he only grew 5 inches."
Spike: "Okay, I'm outta here!"
Applejack: "I'll get the rope!"
Twilight: "DON'T HURT HIM!"
Later... In the human world...
Flash Sentry: "So wait. You want me to come to your magical pony world and marry a princess who loves me who is having my baby?"
AJ: "Eeyup. And if you say no-"
Flash: "Absolutely. Let's go!"
Dash: "Well... that was easy."
AJ: "Well... Good! Though ah really did want to inflict some violence."
Spike: "He might still chicken out."
AJ: "Good point!"
Point of order, how would Spike have missed that? He was a dog the whole time. The nose knows.

Twilight: "Lemme tell you, teenager hormones in humans are intense. You thought heat was bad..."
Pinkie: "Omigosh I know! Me and the whole football team!"
Twilight: "What?"
Pinkie: "What?"
It takes an awful lot of nonsense, usually involving the dude being an ass ("but I'm already married and have kids!" or "lol no she's just a notch on my bedpost") or a pile of implausibly arbitrary restrictions ("but I have to look after my sick orphaned sister, and you said she can't come with us!") to not have this as the only sane reaction.
To be fair, real people can get crushes on someone on the spot merely because they are hot, and Flash Sentry isn't actually ugly, so I never really understood why it being different for Twilight is that unbelievable. I did wonder if it was because she never shown any attraction for stallions and how it just up and happened with Flash that was jarring (and I'll go ahead and say what don't be said out loud much; jealously on a male fan's part in some cases), but when I thought about how few stallions we had seen Twilight interact with (Big Mac and Sunburst being the few main ones) so we don't have much of a sample size. It would be like if the MLP characters was watching a real-life man, saw him interact with 5 women without crushing on them, then get weirded out if he gets a crush on a 6th woman because she's especially cute to him and the characters thought there was no reason for him to get a crush on her. Although it would be hilarious if a character like Twilight had a crush on the man she was watching and got mad and jealous that her husbando was stolen
Now Twi falling in love with Flash, which never happened in canon, and if he didn't do more to learn it besides being attractive and a little nice to her on the other hand...
But I will say that something Flash did that is highly underrated and overlooked but a boon for human x pony stories: it justified Twilight getting crushes on humans either right away or after a short time because it canonically happened.
