The Ultimate Fate of Star Wars · 2:35pm Nov 1st, 2022

Yes, the whole franchise.

There's only one way things could ever end with this franchise. From the very beginning when a small corvette was chased by a Star Destroyer over the desert world of Tatooine, the Star Wars saga has been one of conflict. It's been a war between light and darkness, good versus evil, liberty versus tyranny and at its heart, a story of characters, of a family caught in its midst. It's been a long one told over decades and by dozens of authors in books, video games, t.v. shows, comics and of course the motion pictures which started it all.

Star Wars as a franchise is a story of stories. The movies, the books, the characters and everything about Star Wars means something different to each person who sees them. Despite its size, some people may not see them at all and that is their decision. Compared to other sci-fi and fantasy movies, Star Wars captures the thrill and freedom of space, the vastness of travel and combat in the stars while keeping things simple by exploring it through the eyes of well-grounded characters. Just as we view Star Wars in our own unique ways, so too do the characters that inhabit the universe. The franchise has always had many moving pieces, many parts that make it up, just like the world we live in today.

Today, however, we examine a case in which all these stories are told. Today, we reach the Star Wars coming to an end.

And it ends with peace. From the beginning of the saga, it has been a war between the Rebellion and the Empire. Just as the Skywalkers were a family torn apart by war, so too is the galaxy: one big galactic family ripped apart and thrown into the throes of civil war. The Jedi and the Sith are not perfect. Although the Jedi are clearly good and the Sith are clearly evil, it is ultimately the Skywalkers, Luke and Anakin, that break from the traditionalist route while still adhering to the heart of their ideals that ends the cycle. It is not a permanent end, but it paves the way for an ending to be made, a time of peace.

Luke disobeyed Yoda and left Dagobah to save his friends. Anakin disobeyed the Emperor and saved his son. These small acts of defiance changed the galaxy. It is why only such other radical actions could lead to equally radical change. Inflexibility and unwillingness to see another point of view, to see another side locks the many factions of Star Wars into a cycle of violence and only when one breaks free of them and strives for something greater is it truly broken. An ending to Star Wars, a lasting peace would be the most radical change of all.

Such things are possible.

The Empire promotes order. The Alliance promotes freedom. The two do not necessarily conflict; they can achieve balance. Not a galaxy divided but two sides coming together to give the people what they want. An Imperial Alliance, a new Imperium dedicated to achieving the best that this galaxy far, far away could be beyond light and darkness. It took years and many cycles to achieve, but eventually, members of the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire did the impossible: they came together and created lasting peace.

One end is just another new beginning. The galaxy far, far away may have finally united, but it is not in the nature of anything to remain settled for very long. Rebel and Stormtrooper alike now look across the stars, across the vastness of space and see opportunities they never saw before. Whatever paths they take now, whatever future may lie ahead for them, they go forward, at last, together. And they do so with hope and the knowledge that the Force will be with them.

Always.

Very special thanks to George Lucas.

The ultimate fate of A New Hope is for the original theatrical release cut to finally be released to the public in 5 more years by Disney for the 50th Anniversary Special, then thrown back in the Disney Vault for another 50 years.

I wrote this because I felt like it needed an ending. These Ultimate Fate entries are a way for me to use characters and themes, mostly using stuff from SWTOR as disposable pawns(with a few exceptions) without people wondering what is going to happen to the rest of them.

Like I've said before, crossing over characters is not easy because it risks out of character moments. But if they're OCs, I don't run into that problem. It's why I'm reluctant to add Dan fighting Goku, Master Chief or Superman, even though he has discussed it and, because of the nature of the story, Dan would have to pull out a win. It's possible he could but for now, working with the franchise I know most about and that got me into writing in the first place makes it easier. It's also a chance for me to tie up loose ends. Almost everything I've written- everything, has multiple purposes.

Man the Marvel guys could use you, you know how to manage an extended story multiverse.

Thanks. I'd definitely take the paycheck but if I had my say over things, I'd definitely be changing how they did things recently. She-Hulk would not have twerking or talking down and condescending towards someone who suffers from PTSD and suicidal depression. Really, Marvel and Disney are not in a good place.

They haven't really learned anything. Disney planned to release a new Star Wars movie every year. Full, feature-length film EVERY YEAR. When Solo lost money, they scrapped those plans, but now they're flooding the market with new shows every few months. Franchise fatigue happens, people get tired of stuff, it's how it is. They also have very little stomach for risk which is not good, they're disrespecting their audience and their fans, disregarding criticism, doubling down, it's terrible. Disney has been mishandling the Star Wars franchise since they bought it. I don't think George Lucas is any better than Disney at handling things, but Disney is absolutely terrible. They've had some hits but far too many misses. That being said, I genuinely enjoyed Rogue One and Solo and I'm enjoying the Bad Batch, Kenobi and I'm looking forward to more Bad Batch and the new Jedi game.

Side note, Episode 8 is the worst Star Wars movie. It fails as a film and the biggest problem is that it's just boring. Nothing happens, it's not exciting, it's not engaging, it's just boring. And Admiral Holdo talking down to Poe Dameron is just terrible. Like with She-Hulk, it's a trend in these things I would change immediately.
