The Tree of Harmony is feeling a grave evil coming to the land of Equestria it and it needs bearers for the Elements of Harmony. The old bearers were cases purely out of convenience, they were close and they were what was needed to bring about the Princess of Friendship. Dusk Shine is chosen by the Tree of Harmony to weld the Elements of Harmony and go recruit those who most truly represent the elements, no matter how eccentric they may be.

It's unfortunate that Dusk hates everypony and everything.

You had come a rich family and had always been a bright kid with a talent for magic and had even been a top student at the Canterlot Magic academy. However dealing with the other people, their expectations, their judgments and their schemes proves too much for you so you moves off to the town of Ponyville to start a new life. You make no friends in Ponyville and only have a dog for companionship but you are happy.

As much as you want to resist it, all good things come to an end.

Your entire life has a been a series of heists and crime sprees. You live on the edge and take what ever you want, as part of the infamous Buffalo Brothers. All good things come to an end and all bad guys get whats coming to them. You were going a little fast and decide to have a little down time in a town called Ponyville where you meet a woman who changes your life, but your past catches up to you when you least expect it.

(This story is basically an alternate timeline for Twilight's Kingdom)

You are far from the most interesting Gryphon in the fine mountaintop backwater of Coalsack, just another of the intelligent, lazy and cynical. Because you live in Coalsack you where pretty much for forced to work in the mine or move out of the town with no money, likely to be killed by bandits on the road.
