Princess Celestia has three bright fillies that she took in as her students. One will become a crazed unicorn bent on her views, one would transfer to another dimension, and the third would follow the destiny set out for her from the start. Over time, they become the best of friends. Can Twilight keep them close enough to eventually bring them back?

Princess Aterna, daughter of Celestia, is driven by years of sadness and apparent neglect to transform into Solar Flare. She heads for Ponyville, seeking her revenge on Princess Twilight.

While filly Rainbow Dash is practicing flying with her father, she injures her wing and needs to wear a cast for a week. And she is not happy about it.
