A devastating fire in the library where she worked and the resulting deaths of five girls has caused young librarian Twyla Sparks to go over the edge. Dr. Stephen Pike, Twyla’s supervising psychiatrist, believes her to be mostly harmless, and that there is hope to snap her out of it, if only he can get her transferred away from the confining halls of Pennville Sanitorium. But there's a few hitches... And having Twlya believe she's a unicorn is a major hitch.

Twilight's gone missing, the Elements have been separated, and Celestia has been captured. Equestria has fallen into darkness and Princess Luna is nowhere to be found. Along the way, another of the Elements is lost.
