yknow i kind of hate the forced breeding males thing. i dunno, i was okay with the notion at first, but seeing that they've essentially been enslaved in gilded cages like that is viscerally, seriously uncomfy. Especially with how flare essentially forced leonard to lose, and how he never stood a chance at winning in the first place... Ergh, that really disturbs me. I'm ninety percent sure that was intentional, though. Good on you, author! you can seriously evoke emotion.
Ah. I see. A Kyōka Suigetsu. It was a fun read but Flare didn't quite pull off a Sōsuke Aizen. Don't know how I feel about that field of hers but oh well. Still enjoyed it.
11792018 From the impression I got, it doesn't seem forced on the Breeders within Peak Village. Leonard actually set himself up by accepting Flare's wager back in the earlier chapters. LOL!
He shot himself in the foot with a frick'n Radahn Greatbow. My question is: did Flare actually win? Mulan kind of cut their match short, thanks to the wyvern.
First off, thank you all for the comments and feedback!
Thing is, even I was uncomfortable writing it, and was even expecting those reactions. Allow me to say that there's more to it than what it seems, and if you don't mind a spoiler: Leonard doesn't become Flare's Breeder as she never officially won the match, due to the wyvern's attack. He also becomes a recruit for the Blades through the skills he displayed against Flare, to which she confirms herself, and the upcoming wyvern event.
'Breeder' is definitely going to be a touchy term and a dark trait of Qina. It also serves as a sort of aftermath of a past event that's changed the kirin in such a drastic way, and it even references something that ACTUALLY happened in China. But here in Peak Village, things are different. I know it looks like a gilded cage at this time, but I ask you to trust me.
I don't suppose Leonard is going to be able to learn and use magicks from his realm alongside what he would learn in this feudal Equus, aside from maybe gravity magic?
I don't especially like monkeys, specifically real life ones, but I do like Wukong. He kinda gives off a 'very travelled' vibe like Little Pip or Blackjack near the end of their respective Fallout Equestria stories.
Which shakily brings to my main point: Black Myth Wukong is coming out this year and this chapter just gets me kinda hyped about it by proxy.
Anyway, when Radhan and Leonard reunites, I believe that he might still be inclined to mount him, not the innuendo kind, which kinda limits what Leonard could do. I kinda imagined that Leonard could cast spells while galloping around cocurrently.
Damn, that is one amazing chapter. I loved the use of the Tai and Shaolin martial arts, especially Leonard’s new skills. If he could accomplish all of that with one training session from Sun Tzu, then maybe he’d have won if he had more time to train. Flare is an incredible fighter, especially with her illusion magic, though I am a bit confused. Did the real Flare actually get hit by Leonard’s clones and was happy he knew how to fight before using the illusion magic when he summoned the clones…or was the entire fight inside an illusion while she disarmed him in the real word where she never got hurt?. Regardless, this chapter is very worth the wait! I can’t wait to see Leonard and Flare’s interactions after this fight and their fight with the wyvern.
Hmm... I noticed some people seem displeased with, as one person commented, the supposed "Rapey shit" that's supposedly present here. And there was mention of a gilded cage in another comment; I believe it was the first posted on this chapter.
I fail to see either, and I'll happily explain myself. Let's start with the "Rapey shit."
If these kirin in Peak Village were rapists, Leonard would be in chains throughout his whole stay here. What we do see happen is him being locked up at first, which seems logical--what with you finding a stranger on your front lawn. But once he was cleared with that Wukong potion, what did Mulan and Rain Shine do? They released him, they fed him, and then introduced him to the whole village and Mulan, their leader, spoke on HIS BEHALF, assuring everyone that he could be trusted.
THAT doesn't sound like a bunch of rapists to me. It sounds like, as I said, a logical response, considering the warring times they live in with this Oolong character we've yet to see.
Onto the gilded cage. It's never been implied nor shown that the breeders in that village are unhappy. We've only met one so far, that being Angus, the bull. More importantly, he doesn't sound like he was forced into it. He and his family just struck me as their resident "Apple Family," just without the apples.
As for Flare, and while I agree she's quite persistent in trying to turn Leonard into a breeder, let us not forget he CHOSE to accept her wager. He let his pride as a Redmane cloud his judgment, and I'm pretty sure he even admits it during his talk with Sandy, Tzu, and Mulan. Tzu low-key felt sorry for the guy and trained him.
I think I've made my point. Some people were waaay too quick to hate on this chapter for a certain part of it when we don't even have the full story and/or context yet.
Edit: My point was proven. The author had to address it themself in a response they made, and I recommend you read the blackened bit.
11792140 Eh, her wager was the first mention that there was even a way for him to be accepted, they weren't really that forthcoming that there was a 'If you are deemed worthy in the trial' beforehand, there was more just a 'Fuck off' from her and a 'what if I'm good enough' from him. She decided to add that bit on to his trial, kind of felt like if he refused she'd have returned to wanting him to leave, no mention of any alternative.
As for the blacked-out bit, the whole fight was an illusion from the moment she manifested that flaming forest, a trait of the Dream Realm, which played a big part in her past. Let's just say she didn't choose an ablaze forest just for the sake of it.
Flare goes into greater detail later in the story, but 'Daydreaming' is all too accurate of a name for it. And the best part? It's a reference to what Luna actually does in the show, albeit with my own spin on the concept.

Stupid fucking magic shit
of course she's an illussionist that would be the worst type of fight a redmane could fight.

I have to agree. It's almost enough to make me stop reading altogether tbh.
Think imma drop this one. Was only in it for Radahn, not this rapey shit

That’s a fair perspective, too. That also just makes me respect Mulan all the more.
She’s had his back several times already. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if she somehow bails Leo out of the wager.

Apologies for the incredibly late response! I've been away for the last week.
Leonard will definitely utilize arts from his home realm, and I have an excellent explanation for how that's possible.![:raritywink:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/raritywink.png)
Wukong is easily my all-time favorite of the Chinese mythos/tales. Journey To The West is especially enjoyable.
Oh, I fully intend for that to happen.
Radahn attempts to mount Leo purely based on old habits.

Out of curiosity, how is the chapter doing? It’s been a while.

If all goes according to plan, it'll be up today!
Apologies for the huge delay; it's been busy at my workplace.
