The teachers stood with their eyes closed as the necklaces began to shine. Cozy tried to zap them, but this time, she was unsuccessful. The power of the Elements had already taken effect. She couldn’t even teleport them away from the necklaces like she did last time. Just when she thought this would be her demise, the necklaces stopped glowing and powered down.
“What?! Oh come on!” shouted Smolder.
“But this is the perfect time to use the Elements!” asked Sandbar as he tapped his necklace repeatedly.
“Like I told you, this is just a sign that I’m not doing anything wrong!” Cozy said, landing in front of them and proudly pacing around. “Maybe the Elements are on my side after all?”
“Cozy you know that’s not true! The Elements are a force of good!” Silverstream scolded.
“Yeah, well maybe it’s karma or something. Who knows? I’ll bet it means-UGH!”
Cozy froze and a yellow aura appeared around her, brought her up in the air and turned her around. Flurry had used her magic to telekinetically lift her.
“What it means, Cozy, is that there are other ways to stop you,” she said. “This bracelet is one of them and the Elements know that!”
Cozy used her magic to dissolve the aura and shot another continuous beam at her. It pushed Flurry out of the Ponyville region and over the Everfree Forest. Flurry eventually teleported away to a random spot further away and stopped to catch her breath. She felt something tingling on her left hoof and lifted it to see that the Safeguard Bracelet had been updated once again. Instead of silver, it was now a very shiny and reflective gold and had eight magenta gemstones on it.
“It’s working! But what does it do now?” she asked herself. “This can’t continue. I have to get her to take it off, but she won’t listen. Maybe I can get her to take it off if she’s angry enough and thinks the amulet isn’t working anymore. That’s probably my best bet. I’ll want to draw her out away from Ponyville though. Maybe we should fight over the forest.”
Cozy then teleported in front of her and noticed that the bracelet had changed again. She crossed her arms and thought for a moment.
“So your dinky little artifact can get upgrades, eh? I’m curious to know what it can do now, but there’s only one way to find out!”
“Cozy wait!” Flurry said, frantically. “Don’t use a really powerful shot! Try a small one first!”
“Pffft, what do you think I am, stupid?!”
Cozy shot a powerful beam, but this time, not only did the beam not damage the shield, it bounced back directly at her. She put a shield up just in time and the impact sent her bouncing out of control on treetops, until she landed in a nearby river in the forest. Flurry flew over to see if she was hurt. She couldn’t see Cozy anywhere until Cozy finally emerged from the water with her hair matted down over her face. Her yellow bows had both come untied and fell off into the water. Cozy was breathing heavily and slowly opened her eyes. She appeared angrier than ever before and both her eyes and the amulet's eyes shone at the same time again. It’s evil magic was consuming her more and more and she had now reached her breaking point.
“I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS!!!” she roared.
Cozy overcompensated and started shooting repetitive bolts of very powerful energy at Flurry while having her own shield up so none of them would hurt her. Flurry’s shield kept working, but now the blasts were bouncing off at so many angles. It hit random trees, but Cozy’s aim was out of control and some of it went past Flurry and hit some of the buildings in Ponyville that were transformed. A few of them were destroyed and fell to the ground in rubble. Thankfully most of the town had been evacuated at this point, so no one was probably hurt, but if this continued, Cozy could destroy all of Ponyville. Just then, Flurry concentrated her magic and caused the shield to have a slight concave shape that helped to reflect the magic back at Cozy. Cozy still had her own shield up and it just bounced off and hit more trees around them.
“COZY, STOP! YOU’RE GOING TO DESTROY EVERYTHING!!” Flurry cried.
“Everything huh? Well maybe that can be arranged!” said the deranged little filly.
Cozy then teleported out over Ponyville far up in they sky just below the clouds. She started charging up a huge ball of energy over her head with her hooves in the air.
“YOU WANT DESTRUCTION?! LET’S SEE YOU SAVE YOUR PRECIOUS PONYVILLE NOW!!!!!”
The energy ball grew so big and finally, Cozy threw it down towards Ponyville. Flurry teleported directly underneath the ball, using the bracelet’s powers to protect Ponyville below. The shield covered the entire town and although at first it let the ball sink deeply into it, eventually the ball bounced right back at Cozy. Cozy freaked out and teleported out of the way just in time for the ball to miss her. It traveled up past the dark clouds and eventually exploded somewhere in the atmosphere, safely away from the world below.
Cozy looked up at the explosion through the hole in the clouds that continued to part from the shockwave. Now she was out of ideas. She gritted her teeth and her face turned beet red. She finally snapped and screamed to the top of her lungs.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!! I HATE THIS STUPID AMULET!! I HATE IT!! IT’S SO WORTHLESS!! WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER?!?”
In her anger, she did the one thing she was not supposed to do: she tore off the amulet and threw it to the Earth below. For a few moments she just kept breathing heavily until she realized what she had just done.
“Oops.”
The horn on her head disappeared and her wings shrunk down to their natural size. Flurry caught the amulet with her magic. She then noticed the bracelet transforming again. It was now thinner and made of a glowing bluish material with eight colorful diamonds spinning around it. Flurry wasn’t sure what she could use it for now that her opponent had been defeated, but she used her magic to activate its power and slowly sent a wave of energy across everything. All of Ponyville’s architecture and the School of Friendship reverted back to their regular states and every sign of destruction caused by the amulet was mended. The bracelet had grown so fond of handling the amulet’s magic; it was now able to undo it.
“NOOOOO! MY PERFECT WORLD!” shouted Cozy.
The energy wave went further and transformed Starlight, Trixie and Sunburst back into adults. It moved past the stone statue and unfroze Discord, Celestia, and Luna. They fell to the ground without the pedestal below them and then started glowing brightly until they were transformed back into their grown selves once again. Discord looked at both of his hands and smiled. Fluttershy ran in to give him a hug as he hugged back. Behind him were Celestia and Luna. Luna had grown taller over the years and was now the same height as her sister. She slowly began to open her eyes and immediately knew she was back to normal. She looked up to see Celestia offer her hoof to help her up. Luna took her hoof and embraced her sister. Suddenly a flash of light appeared between them and Discord hugged them both tightly.
“It’s been done!” said Starswirl. “I knew she could do it!”
“This battle finally comes to an end. Ooooh, my rhyme! It is back once again!” Zecora said, joyfully.
The wave of energy went past King and Queen Kriegspiel and Cozy turned to watch her parents in horror.
“MOM, DAD, NOOOOOOOOO!” Cozy screamed.
They both put their hooves up as if to reach out for help. With worried, saddened faces, they watched their daughter one last time before disintegrating and fading away like ashes in the wind. Everyone else looked equally horrified with what happened. Even Discord, Celestia, and Luna were shocked to see this.
“No…no…” Cozy said over and over again, quivering as Flurry stared at her.
She took one look at Flurry and started hyperventilating and crying.
“Cozy…I…” Flurry began to say.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!”
“COZY, WAIT!”
Cozy shrieked one last time and flew off into the Everfree Forest. Flurry followed her, but couldn’t see Cozy any longer now that she had disappeared under the trees. It was sunset at this time and was already getting too dark around the forest, but Flurry was worried about Cozy and continued to call for her.
“Cozyyyyyy! Cozyyyyyyyyyyyy! Cozy Glow, where are you?!”
She shouted over and over again but got no response. After a few minutes, she finally noticed a spot in the Everfree Forest by a small waterfall. Cozy was sitting at the edge of the pond.
“COZY!!”
Flurry flew down onto the shore a few yards away from Cozy. She used her magic to keep the amulet safely behind her, though Cozy didn’t seem to be interested in the amulet anymore. Flurry walked over slowly and tried talking to her.
“Cozy, what happened back there?”
Cozy didn’t answer. She remained silent. She wasn’t even crying anymore.
“Cozy please, what happened to your parents? Are they okay?”
“They aren’t real,” Cozy said flatly.
“What?”
“They aren’t real. I made them up.”
“You…you made them up?”
“I used the power of the amulet to make some parents for myself, and now they’re gone.”
Flurry paused for a few moments to take in this shocking revelation.
“I…I don’t understand. Why would you do that?” Flurry asked.
“Isn’t it obvious? I don’t know who my parents even are! I was left on the steps of an orphanage as a foal and raised there most of my life. Nopony ever wanted to adopt me, the caretakers weren’t very nice to me, so I just left on my own and you know the rest.”
“Is this the reason why you are the way you are?”
“Yes.”
Flurry sat down and was silent for almost an entire minute. The only thing that could be heard were the peepers, the waterfall, and the sound of Cozy sniffling every few seconds.
“I’m so sorry, Cozy. I had no idea.”
“Not like you would ever understand. You have two loving parents and tons of friends. You’ll never know what this feels like. You have no idea how much I envy ponies like you.”
“Why didn’t you just tell somepony about this?”
“What difference would it make? What difference does it make at all?! All I ever truly wanted was to have loving parents, so I made my own fake parents just to be happy, and now look where it got me!”
“Cozy, that can all change. Let me help you. I can-”
“NO!”
Cozy snapped and got up to slowly walk towards Flurry as Flurry backed away. Tears were already streaming down her face, her lips quivered, her voice trembled and she stuttered as she spoke.
“Forget about it, alright?! I’m a villain and everyone hates me! I’ve given you guys enough trouble and now I’ll probably never be forgiven!”
“Cozy…”
“Just leave me alone.”
“COZY, PLEASE!!”
Cozy took off, flying away into the forest. Flurry’s calling did no good and this time she couldn’t find the strength to go after her. The sound of Cozy’s wings flapping faded away. She was now out of sight. Flurry sat on the ground in the same spot Cozy had been. She hung her head and a tear started to form in her eye. She then heard footsteps behind her and knew right away who it was. She turned her head to see Twilight and most of the others behind her. She too had a very worried look on her face.
“Did you hear any of that?” she asked.
“The whole thing,” Twilight said, sullenly.
Flurry slowly got up and walked over to her aunt. When she got to her, they shared a hug with Flurry still crying.
“And to think all these years I was searching for her parents, only to find this,” said Twilight, petting her niece’s head.
“Do you think her real parents are still out there?”
“I’m sure they are, and I’ll continue to look for them. They are undoubtedly the key to reforming her.”
Flurry continued to cry into Twilight’s shoulder as some of the others came in to join them.
Wow...I thought it would feel satisfying to see Cozy humbled again and finally put in her place, after everything she's done, with all of her damage undone and seeing her free of the Alicorn Amulet's influence, but, quite effectively, Alex, you've made me feel really sorry for her.
So she doesn't know who her own family is, and she created fake parents to be everything she was denied and what she thought she deserved. I had a feeling that was the case. It's no wonder she turned out the way she did, feeling unloved and unappreciated...
Poor Flurry, too. She wanted to help her, but she wasn't able to...There may yet still be hope of finding out who she really is and where she came from, but for now, she's done all she could, and stopped Cozy's rampage.
I didn't excepted Cozy Glow's parents are turn out to be fakes. No doubt that the real parents might be still out there.
In her anger, she did the one thing she was not supposed to do: she tore off the amulet and threw it to the Earth below. For a few moments she just kept breathing heavily until she realized what she had just done.
It was that moment that she knew, she f**k up.
Interesting twist for Cozy's parents. It makes sense considering we literally never saw or heard from them even when Cozy was stealing the amulet. Is it possible that she wasn't even using the amulet to its fullest power since she was literally splitting it between two other illusion alicorn things?
I can't say it was very responsible to just let her fly away further into the forest in the dark alone though. Twilight at least should have stopped her so that she wouldn't get hurt in that place.
I guess the amulet's corrupting influence took away her intellect as well.
I'm not sure how much help they would be when they never really met her.
Or the cause Of Cozy's villainy. Sorry for sounding negative but has the show ever an orphan child or an Orphanage? If not than by standards of the show, Cozy Glow is the 1st orphan filly of MLP FIM. It might have explained why Celestia and Luna never bothered to find her parents and send her to Tartarus instead. Which is still wrong to me, along with turning her to stone
Holy mackerel she's gone insane man
Cozy we don't feels so good
That is also another theory that I was wondering about that as well and why we never saw her parents and why she became like that
Wow when you say it got dark you're not kidding but anyway apparently the Elements of Harmony did not activate it for some odd reason but flurry heart still stopping cozy from hurting other ponies and creatures and she got really mad and she's about to destroy the town but flurry heart stopped her in time but then out of anger she took The Amulet off and once the amulet is off all the effects and everything went back to normal Celestia Luna and Discord are back to their normal self so did Trixie Starlight and sunburst and Zecora finally got her rhyming back they finally stopped cozy but unfortunately it turns out her parents are not real and out of frustration she ran but flurries wants to understand why she did this and she told her the truth about her past and she felt like she would never be forgiven after what she done and she finally just ran away flurry heart felt sad that she could not done anything for cozy sigh okay wow that was pretty sad I wonder where cozy glow going to go but I guess we'll find out next time
11091383
I know a lot of people can't stand her, but I wondered if hearing this about her could make them want to hug her instead. If it happened in the actual show, I feel it would have that effect.
11091391
They're out there somewhere.
11091409
I like to think she was using as much power as it was willing to give her, which would basically count as "full" but when her parents tried using their magic, it took away some of hers because she would need to use magic in order for her illusions to do the same. She was already using up enough magic to keep them as tangible beings so maybe she wasn't actually using the "full" power. Also, she seems more powerful than Trixie cuz she just had more evil intentions from the start. Trixie just wanted to be the best. Cozy wanted actual revenge.
Probably not. They're probably expecting her to come right back and Twilight has let her guards know about Cozy and they are searching for her.
It did. It made her go completely insane.
I have a plan on how to make it work. You'll see in a later episode...
11091420
Well I still like to consider Scootaloo an orphan. It was better back when fans had their theories about her. XD
I like to think Cozy was sent to Tartarus because she'd technically be safe there since everything else is chained up and can't hurt her, but also because she committed a huge crime by trying to suck away all magic. They wouldn't keep her there forever, just until they can find her parents, and that was what they were trying to do this whole time, but they didn't know about the orphanage she grew up in and that orphanage doesn't know what has been happening with Cozy either. I'm working on explaining how the latter is possible and how her real parents are still not involved yet.
11091425
I know right? She made a freaking spirit bomb from Dragon Ball! Of course she made the mistake of not taking an entire episode or two to charge it up. XD
11091432
I was inspired by everyone fading away like that after Thanos snapped. XD
11091466
11091473
I may know why the Elements of the Young 6 didn't activate. It's my theory but I believe they didn't active because that Spirit of Friendship knows if they used a friendship beam on Cozy Glow, their actions would create hurt, sorrow and possibly create a villain by the action of Harmony and Friendship.
Again, very good job on the action, exchanges, characterizations and epilogue set-up in all the right places. Yeah, I have to admit, the current Bearers' elements not working wasn't completely expected (but then, I suppose it would have been too easy if they HAD worked) but I still appreciated how Flurry managed to frustrated Cozy enough to finally remove the Amulet. And, yeah, I could see where Cozy never got to know her actual parents, so created a fake set. And, yeah, I have to admit, that bit of backstory on Cozy actually made me feel a bit bad. I mean, the being raised in a bad orphanage deal doesn't excuse her actions, but it DOES explain them to a certain extent. And that is exactly what a good villain backstory SHOULD do - explain the villain's actions without excusing them.
But, anyway, certainly looking forward to the epilogue.
11091475
I know right lol it's even longer than sephiroth supernova
Aw...poor Cozy...
11091486
Exactly! The Elements didn't punish Cozy during her first villainous deed, and when they were used against her the second time in Ending of the End, it only took away her magic without turning her into stone, instead Discord, Celestia, and Luna did that, and now during this story, the power of Harmony still refused to turn her to stone. It knows Cozy needs to be reformed and she needs time to figure things out and that Flurry can find a way to take her magic away so everyone is safe. I write the Elements of Harmony and the very Spirit of Harmony to work like this.
Poor Cozy
11091508
Oh gosh, I don't think it's THAT strong! That thing just put a freaking hole in Jupiter and then it exploded! O_O
11091581
I know right that is one of the most over Overkill in the Final Fantasy games
Does Cozy deserve what she got? No, I don't think anyone does. Nobody deserves to be abandoned and unloved, to be left behind by their parents at an abusive orphanage.
However, that still doesn't excuse any of the things she has done. Using your pain to justify your crimes and inflicting pain on to others does not eliminate you of guilt! Look at Gallus, he never had any family either, and he grew up in a place that being described as a "total dump" is the nicest way of putting it. But he didn't let that stop him from succeeding, he didn't go off the deep end, or hurt everyone around him. He made something of himself and succeeded despite his tragic upbringing.
I just pity Cozy. I hope Flurry can reach her someday, but it is her own choices that have made her the way she is.
11091420
Not trying to be picky but there is a bit of a distinction in terms here:
Orphan - child who has had both parents die. Apple Bloom thus qualifies as an orphan.
Foundling - an infant that has been abandoned by its parents and is discovered and cared for by others. Spike may qualify - I don't remember his background enough to say one way or the other.
Cozy Glow in this story is not necessarily an orphan (since we don't know the fate of her parents) but would be a foundling.
11091473
The time Cozy spent in Tartarus probably is a bit longer than one would think because Best Gift Ever occurs between season 8 and 9. That puts her time in Tartarus to, at minimum, nearly a year.
My Little Pony: Best Gift Ever (also known as My Little Pony: Best Gift Ever! and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Best Gift Ever) is a double-length Christmas-themed special based on the animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, taking place in-between seasons eight and nine.
My Little Pony: Best Gift Ever - Wikipedia
11091677
Oh dang, you're right! O.O
Well the order of the episodes when speaking chronologically can be argued, but that could have taken place between any seasons or during some. We do know that Grand Pear is in it so it could happen some time after S7 and before S8. I can't think of any other material in that special that would prove it was between S8 and S9.
11091629
She definitely did some terrible things, but note how the amulet was obviously controlling her at the end of chapter 4 when she seemed to be about to forgive Discord, Celestia, and Luna, but then the amulet caused her to go right back to hating them. Without the amulet, Cozy would have only been as angry as she was during S9 when she got some magic from the bell and became an alicorn. Now that she's lost all the power from the amulet and can no longer have the parents she created for herself, she's angry and resentful, but is not ready to admit that she feels sorry. You'll see how she really feels about all of this in the next and final chapter tomorrow.
I'm a bit conflicted with Cozy here, on one hoof creating parents since she doesn't know what happened to them was horrible (also it confirmed my hunch about not been real after her outburst at Twilight) but on the other hoof even with the amulet's influence she hurt & caused pain to others 3 times by now! (1st by stealing magic worldwide, 2nd using Grogar's bell) Like SupersonicHeroes said I pity her but it still doesn't excuse her actions.
She has a very long road to go to earn forgiveness, especially with this stupid stunt just after coming back! Also someone please break that stupid amulet already, it's more trouble than it's worth!
11091684
Well, the young 6 are in Best Gift Ever (we see them boarding a train at the beginning) and the school is visible in some backgrounds so the special must be after season 8 starts. We already had a Hearth's Warming episode in season 8 (Hearth's Warming Club) so the timeline in Wikipedia fits. The young 6 graduated at the end of season 8. Graduation is normally in the spring. Best Gift Ever would be that year's winter. That leaves Cozy to be freed by Discord the following spring.
It just does not seem to make sense from a timeline perspective to have her in Tartarus less than a year.
What makes Cozy Glow interesting is that she has so many mysteries associated with her. Here are a few:
11091761
I was going to say that Hearth's Warming Club and Best Gift Ever were the same year, but I forgot that in the former, all the students stayed behind for break while in the latter, they all went to their respective kingdoms for break so your theory may be right. I guess we can just strike BGE as non-canon or spin-off with conflicting canon, but maybe Cozy really did stay in Tartarus that long and Celestia and Luna could not find her parents...
11091761
Know what wish Flurry would say to Cozy come be part of her family since Flurry doesn’t have any siblings why not get her parents to adopt the evil… I mean adorable filly
I do appreciate the fact that Cozy wasn't able to be reformed this chapter, because Flurry nor Twilight had anyway to actually reform her or get Cozy to try. There's a good reason why Cozy hates Flurry, because flurry's life is everything Cozy ever wanted but doesn't have nor she thinks she will.
Cozy saw her fake (first) parent disappear before her eyes. Her plans ruined, and reputation tarnished into oblivion.
She shouldn't be forgiven like some commentors said, but she should be given the chance like Sunset, Discord and Starlight were. The biggest problem, like I said, is getting Cozy to try. Which, I don't see how finding Cozy's parents will help. As they left her at an orphanage with no explanation, so they probably don't want her or are death.
11091867
When I set out to redeem the Trio, I made sure to not have them be reformed right away after the first episode they were in. I promised they'd get their chance at being a villain again and then get an episode that would finally redeem them. Tirek will get that chance soon.
Yeah, Cozy really is envious of Flurry and anyone else who is lucky to have loving parents. Cozy's parents are out there, but let's hope they are of sound mind.
11091879
Well she was left at the orphanage so it’s likely that the parents couldn’t raise her…even though they couldn’t that is love for her to fine a new home which sadly not all kids get to get one… know what… I don’t think Cadence and Cozy haven’t really meant in the show before so what if a big what if! Is that when Cadance was still a Pegasus (which did sound she was in her teens before becoming an Alicorn) she is Cozy’s mother and couldn’t raise her at that time?
I mean… Cadence would have been the right age at the time and her father could either be Shining or someone else that isn’t around.
But you have amazing ideas so you do you
Sorry that’s my theory a Pony Theory thanks for reading!
11091811
Yup. Totally wasn’t inspired by Dragon Ball Z there. XD
11091842
That’s probably what she wanted to say before Cozy flew away.
11091963
Oooh, I like this theory!
11092309
Same, this is now a cool theory
