Back inside Stable 4, I was destined for greatness. Outside, I was nothing more than a filly. At the same time, I also seemed to fit in very well into the horribly violent Equestrian wasteland, more than you would expect from somepony my age.

Definitely. Iron is absolutely huge by now. Like, freakishly tall. But still thin as a stick.
yes!
yes!!
noooooooooo
arghhhh so close! I can't wait for those two to get back to each other and maybe get an explanation on why cobalt lied about it
Mr. House had the right idea with Vault 21: Fill it with concrete.
Littlepip had the right idea with Stable 24: Divert a river into it.
Why does no-one else do this?
Trémaux's algorithm! Trémaux's algorithm! Trémaux's algorithm!
So scoop it off with something, ya dingus! Magic necronapalm lizard spit ain't scooping itself off!
There is a frightening implication here: The raddragons recognize the shape of a gun, they understand what a gun does, and they know to avoid wherever one attached to a pony is pointing. Any animal can recognize that fire burns, that a stick bruises, and that teeth and claws tear, but recognizing the more complex cause and effect of a gun and the injury that results from one requires the ability to make correlations based on past experience.
These necronapalm murder lizards are as smart as corvids, or possibly smarter. They are pack hunters, instigators, investigators, and most importantly, they are problem solvers.

Never fight the Wanamingos without either a high crit rate unarmed build or a lot of AP ammo.
I've begun to see a pattern in most encounters with dangerous creatures and ponies in FoE stories: The ponies consistently forget that their first and best advantages in the face of predators are their speed and strength in numbers. Going into a hole in the ground alone ignores the #1 and #2 Maxims of Pony Survival:
1. Stay With the Herd, Or Be a Dragon's Turd
2. Run, Then Gun for Fun and Profit; Gun First and Fill Your Coffin
There was no reason for anyone to die during this venture. If the nasty critters you want to exterminate made their nest in a cave, don't go into their lair, just collapse the entrance! Think, ponies! Think! Would you rather go into the room that contains a dozen angry radhogs, or the one that contains a hellhound that hasn't eaten in three months? Your momma gave you a working noggin when she brought you into this world. Use it!

>Why does no one else do this?
You'd need a lot of concrete, or a river. They have neither :P
>Scoop it up
The idea is that you can't really do that. I don't remember how much detail I put in about it, but I should probably revisit the chapter in that regard.
>Collapse the entrance
Can't exactly do that, not with their current supplies. Plus, they did underestimate the number of creatures down there.

Ah, so they are both underprepared and failed their Genre Savviness Exam! Never approach a large hole in the ground without at least thirty-nine and a half sticks of dynamite, a wagon full of planks, a wagon full of rocks, or a handy-dandy River-In-A-Bottle.
More seriously, going in was just a really bad judgement call... but that's what kids do, make bad decisions. I bet they'll never go into another Stable after this one, not without much better armament, supplies, and a good plan. The only realistic option for sealing it off they could have had would be to jam one of the interior doors shut, and it's pretty clear nobody in the group is mechanically inclined enough to think of that. Beyond breaking the mechanism or severing its circuit, the next best thing would be to find a blowtorch (or the right unicorn, or a Kirin, or a friendly dragon ) and some rebar to forge-weld the door to its frame.
Alas, that would require them to know that that's an option.
