Back inside Stable 4, I was destined for greatness. Outside, I was nothing more than a filly. At the same time, I also seemed to fit in very well into the horribly violent Equestrian wasteland, more than you would expect from somepony my age.

If the main OCs in this story were voiced, what would they sound like?

I like to imagine that stable dwellers all have some kind of weird accent depending on the stable, since they've spent two centuries isolated from the rest of the world.
Stable 4 would have a very posh-sounding accent, maybe something resembling one of the many British accents. Maybe they'd have the neutral British accent, or maybe some weird mixture of British and American. There's a reason for it, but it'll probably be mentioned in the story itself at some point so I won't go into detail here.
On top of that, Iron's voice has a tendency to crack due to her age. As she grows up, though, she'll get a fairly deep voice. Something along the lines of Tempest Shadow, but with a different accent. (Funnily enough, despite the similarities, Iron wasn't actually inspired by Tempest, at all.)
Candy on the other hand, would have a calm and soothing voice. I think the closest canon equivalent would be Celestia's voice, but again with a different accent.
Banter, Lockpick and Petal would have fairly normal voices. Lockpick would sound very similar to Sweetie Belle. Petal would have a very monotone voice; not quite Maud levels, but still very flat. Banter would have a mild Southern accent. Not quite pronounced enough to be worth noting, but if you listen in and pay attention to his voice, you'd notice it.
The last two major characters haven't been introduced yet, but I do go into detail about how they sound. One of them will be introduced in Sunday's chapter, the other in chapter 16 (which will be published on the 28th)
This one, unfortunately, doesn't make sense to me at all.

That's understandable. I know the build-up to the reveal wasn't quite there; I was hoping it would make sense with the build-up in this chapter and in 10.10, but I can see how that was weak and would feel rushed.
The reason for that was that I decided to take the story in a different direction. Having Iron be a complete sociopath with no concept of guilt for the entire story would have lost its charm very quickly. So instead I decided that she could and would learn to have a conscience over time.
Hmm... the last part is Lockpick, right?
I wonder if there's anything else she's hiding - well, besides what drove Cascade away.
No post escape dialogue with the survivors? We don't find out if the foals mom made it back or even survived the raiders? Kind of disappointing ending but the rescue itself was pretty good.
I can see what you mean about the different direction you took the character and it is more interesting this way.

Yeah, such a scene would have been nice, but was worried about slowing down the pacing too much, given how slow volume 2 has been.
In hindsight, probably could have afforded to slow down just a little; split this chapter in two and add a scene with the survivors.
And thanks! I'm kinda worried every time someone likes volume 1, since the fic takes a different direction around these here chapters.

I like it so far, it's somewhat different I guess but it's character growth.
So, did the mother make it back to those foals from the raiders?

I don't remember, to be honest. Knowing me, she probably wouldn't
xD
???
very packed chapter, the talk about candy's death definitely brought back the feels and made me well up,
Iron sights and sonata becoming more defined is really interesting to read and something I'm eager to follow,
I had my doubt iron bordered on raider during her time alone but I didn't think she had gone as far as that,
I'm also happy banter survived, albeit not intact
