Chapter 21: How i Lost My Parents.

In Equestria the night had now replaced the day. The sun had left its place to the moon which, accompanied by the stars, illuminated with its pale light the kingdom of the monarch Princess Celestia. All the inhabitants of the kingdom rested pampered by the white moonlight; All but one. The only pony, or rather human present in Equestria could not reach the sweet world of dreams. The young Elias, however hard he tried, could not abandon himself in the arms of Morpheus, many thoughts swirling in his head. Now that he had some time for himself, he could concentrate better on the events that occurred that day, which gave him only a few hours of sleep. A world that seems to come from a book of fairy tales, magic talking ponies, enchanted artifacts, dragons and many other things that Elias still had to see and discover. The cadet wondered how he had not gone mad after all that had happened: his sudden arrival in that world, the fierce battle against Scarlett, the fight against those creatures that seemed to come out of the darkest meanders of hell. That last event hammered the soldier's thoughts more. From what was told by her new pony friends, such creatures had never been seen in Equestria. Twilight and Sunset also did some research to find out something about those beasts that had invaded Ponyville, but unfortunately they couldn't find anything, and the message that Princess Celestia had sent that morning worried him even more. For sending that letter with such urgency to Elias meant only that something terrible was about to happen.

"Who knows why Celestia has requested the presence of the girls so urgently ..." Muttered to himself Elias. "Why do I have the bad feeling that the attack that took place today in Ponyville is just the beginning of something really terrible? It's useless, I can't rest properly. Maybe it's better if I go for a walk to relax a little." The boy got up from the bed prepared by Applejack in the guest room, rummaged through the clothes made by Rarity where he saw a black sweatshirt with the Golden symbol of the Survey Corps on his back, on his arms and on the left side of his chest.

"But I have to admit that Rarity has its own style." Elias thought as he admired the item clothing of the pony with white coat, but decided to put it aside and opted for a red sweatshirt similar to the one he had when he arrived in Equestria before it was ruined, along with the uniform, during the clashes occurred in Ponyville.

"Fortunately, my diary was not damaged. After all that happened I had no time to write or to check if it was ruined." Said the young cadet after finding his diary while rummaging through his clothes.

After he dressed, Elias put his diary in his pocket and slowly left the room to avoid waking everyone up. With a padded step, the young cadet came out of Applejack's house. When Elias left the Apple mansion, he couldn't help but admire the scenery offered by Sweet Apples Acres illuminated by the white pallor of the moon shining high in the sky. The soldier was enchanted. But this did not last long, because while Elias admired the landscape, he noticed a figure receding. Elias initially did not recognize who he was, but when he noticed that on the head of the mysterious figure a very familiar hat, he was able to immediately identify the mystery pony.

"Applejack?" Curiosity began to arise within Elias, and quickly began to grow as he could not explain why Applejack was still awake, but above all he did not know where she was going at that late hour. Unable to find answers to these questions, Elias began to worry so he decided to follow her without being discovered. Maybe she was in trouble? Maybe there was something that worried her? All questions that needed an answer and the only way was to see where it was going. The journey took just a couple of minutes and the new soldier noticed that Applejack had headed for a small clearing full of apple and pear trees, but what made him literally stunned was a tree, or rather a couple of trees that they had manifested themselves in the center of this clearing: they were an apple tree and a pear tree twisted together. But their shape did not appear at all irregular or unnatural, it seemed that the two trees were embracing. Elias was literally stunned by such a spectacle. Nature had given birth to something absolutely unique and incredible. But the soldier's astonishment caught the attention of the peasant pony, who when she turned around behind her, was surprised to see Elias in the clearing.

"Elias? What are you doing here?" Asked Applejack intrigued by the presence of her human friend.

"I couldn't sleep." Elias answered. "So I thought about taking a walk to clear up my ideas, then I saw you go away and I decided to follow you because I was worried that something had happened to you. Is everything ok?"

"Yes, everything is ok, don't worry about sugarcube." AJ answered. "I needed to clear my mind a bit, you know, after all that's happened today, so I came here."

"I understand you very well. After all that has happened I am beginning to think that in reality I have gone mad and that all this is only the fruit of my deviated mind."

"Don't worry, you didn't go out of your mind, otherwise I should start believing that I'm crazy too and I'm pretty sure I still have all the wheels in my place."

"What place is this?" Elias asked as he looked around. "It's really beautiful. How did you find out?"

"Actually, I didn't really find out ..." Applejack said. "Since this was my parents' personal garden."

"The garden ... of your parents?" Asked the cadet almost in a whisper, fearing to press a sore point for the farmer pony, remembering the episode that happened at lunchtime.

"Yes. They created it shortly after they got married. At first it was very small, but over time it became this little clearing you see now."

The soldier was literally enchanted by the landscape that surrounded him. Lush apple and pear trees with their delicious-looking fruits. Elias couldn't help but think of Sasha and how she would have loved this place, or rather, how she would have loved its fruits. A little laugh came from his lips.

"Why are you laughing?" Asked Applejack intrigued by the behavior of the human.

"Sorry Applejack. But seeing all these beautiful fruits reminded me of Sasha." Elias answered.

"Sasha? You mean your "non-girlfriend?" The pony pony asked with a grin.

"Yes, Applejack. My "non-girlfriend"." The cadet answered, smiling as he lowered Applejack's hat in front of the latter's eyes. "She came to my mind because she is a gourmand and would certainly have enjoyed the sight of all these delicious looking fruits."

"I'm sure if she tasted one of these fruits, she would fall in love instantly." He replied the pony from the orange coat as he adjusted his hat.

"Without a shadow of a doubt. But Applejack, tell me, why are these two trees ... so?" The young cadet inquired, pointing to the pair of trees hugging each other.

"I could not tell you precisely why they grew up like this. But, I like to think that these two trees represent the love that bound my parents. After all, these two trees are the very first that were planted in this garden after their marriage. In fact, whenever I want to be alone or need to freshen up, I always come under these trees. " Applejack answered with a little melancholy in her voice.

Elias after Applejack's explanation remained silent to admire the "Trees in Love". Every minute that passed in that new world, there was always something that left him literally speechless.

"Applejack?"

"Yes?"

"Your parents ... how ...?" The cadet began to say.

"How did they die?" Ended the farmer pony realizing immediately what her human friend wanted to ask her. Elias made a slight sign of affirmation with his head.

"Timberwolf." Applejack answered.

"Timberwolf?" The young soldier asked in confusion.

"It happened several years ago. It was a day like many others. Together with the whole family we were in Ponyville to sell both our apples and Granny's apple pies. When at one point a huge pack of wolves arrived with the corps made entirely of wood. They began to attack all the ponies present. The bravest tried to confront them but every time they tore them to pieces, their destroyed parts readjusted and returned to the attack again. Mom and Dad ordered Granny to take me, Big Mac and Applebloom and go back to the farm to stay safe while they tried to repel the assault. I don't remember how much time passed when we returned to the farm, but I remember perfectly when two royal guards came to our door inform us that together with Princess Celestia they had succeeded in repelling the Timberwolf assault, but unfortunately there had been several victims, including my parents. " Ended Applejack with wet eyes in memory of that tragic event.

"I'm sorry Applejack. I understand your pain very well." Elias said, remembering that his mother lost her life in the same way that Applejack's parents lost it: sacrificing her life to save her children.

"This hat I was wearing was a gift from my mother to my father. One of the guards who came to give us the news also brought this hat back to us. From that day on I never broke off. Perhaps it will seem stupid, but when I wear this hat it is as if they were with me. " Applejack said in a melancholy tone.

"It's not stupid." Elias said. "See also I have something that binds me to my parents." The cadet took his diary out of his pocket. "See this? This little diary was a gift from my parents. At first I didn't know what to do with it, but I warmly accepted this gift. When mum and dad died, this diary was the only thing I had left of them. When I was able to overcome the death of my parents I decided to write on this diary all the things I thought were important. In this way it was as if I let my parents know what was happening to me even though they were no longer here with me." Elias concluded as he flipped through the pages of his diary.

"It's very sweet, Elias. So keep the memory of your parents alive." Applejack said smiling at the cadet.

"The same goes for you. I love my foster mother a lot and I am grateful for everything she did for me, but I didn't want to look like I was putting my biological parents aside. That's why I asked to keep my surname original, in fact at the registry office I am recognized as Elias Schützen Brzenska.

"This explains why you had a different surname than your adoptive mother." Applejack said. The two friends remained in silence for a few minutes admiring the stars.

"Very often I wonder what my parents would think of me right now." Applejack wondered as he watched the pale moonlight.

"That they would be proud of the wonderful pony you have become." A voice said. Elias and Applejack turned in the direction the voice had come from and saw that it was ...

"Rarity?" Said the farmer pony.
