Yay great chapter, this is very good.:)
That was good and powerful, also I think the gryphon prisoners are going want to speak with them next after they hear about having ate some of the marines comrades while others died of starvation.
The gryphons did not eat Marines.
(Warning: read this out loud)
I rate this chapter ten out of pickle. With a twist that would have even M. Night Shyamalan scratching his head going "did not see that coming." Truly a wonderful addition to this ever growing story. I wear pink panties.
P.S. (To the one guy that truly read that out loud in a public place I salute you.)
Liking it. My only issue is it takes a long time to starve to death. Take the McCandless case ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_McCandless) back in the 90s. He was by himself in Alaska with very little in the way of game and some berries and it took him 130+ days to starve. Of course I suppose you could say that the magic mutation took a lot out of it's victims and handwave it.
A huge diplomatic crisis wrapped up in one chapter's worth of words.
Most politicians would have dragged that out.
Marines, and Gryphons don't fuck around.
I've got a hunch that the Marines won't be going to Horseyland.
I want to know why the gryphons captured didn't tried to communicate, it would have made things easier
6217027 Military types don't talk when captured, it has never needed to be shared, all countries know it and I see no reason why the Gryphons would do differently.
6217065 What about the civilian portion of the group
You can totally tell atrex has his sights set on a griffoness to add to his harem/herd that guys totally going all John smith on the natives
(FYI John smith is that guy from that Disney movie Pocahontas. And it would totally be funny and make my day if someone in the story started calling him that. Just saying *hint, hint*)
I don't think diabetics would be allowed to serve in any branch of the military. I've never heard of it and I'm a veteran.
6217168 Maybe you missed the part where ALL Gryphons had to do a term of military service as soon as they become adults?
6217189 What's with the John Smith reference? By the way, the Disney movie Pocahontas was pure shit. She was six or seven when she saved his life and they never became romantically involved. I HATE that cartoon almost as much as I hate the Disney version of Hercules (his original name was Heracles, his mother tried to EAT him when he was born and he was killed when he put on a poisoned shirt)
6217225
Yeah the movie kind of sucked but your missing the point of my post
i was just pokin fun sorry if I hit a nerve I didn't mean to make you mad
6217203 The military began allowing some diabetics to join in 2007.
6217225 Then you probably don't want to see the 2014 Dwayne Johnson Hercules movie.
6217249 Naw it's fine. I do tend to fly off the handle at little stuff, so don't worry about it. You didn't actually upset me.
6217338 I actually didn't hate it. It chose the path of there being no gods and that everything was just a myth. I get upset when somebody claims something is exactly according to history or legend and gets it ridiculously wrong. The Dwayne Johnson movie never claimed it was made strictly according to the legend so I expected artistic liberties. I can respect artistic liberties when they are done tastefully. I can forgive Peter Jackson for not making The Lord Of The Rings exactly according to the books because they are executed well. My biggest complaint with things like that are like when Bard slew Smaug with a 'Dwarven Wind Lance'. In the books Bard just used a regular bow. He did have a mysterious black arrow to use, but it was not as big as a spear. It was the size of a regular arrow.
Anyway, I do tend to overreact often.
6217374
I watched the trilogy yesterday after not seeing it for six years it's weird how these things pop up in conversation
The lord of the rings that is not that hobbit farce they tried to pass off recently
6217374
To be honest I'm not one for historical relevance I couldn't care if they smudge some details about legends because stories change over time and what you heard probably isn't the original story anyway but if a movie butchers a book you can expect my to be hollering at the director from behind my bowl of popcorn in my living room because story degradation is a no no and you should feel bad if you committed such a heinous act of literary vandalism
6217448 Take the movie Eragon for example. *shudder*
The Long Drag.
40 miles with 80 pounds, in less than 24 hours.
At the end of the selection tests.
Theres a good thing with having restricted supplies at first, they dont get system shock from trying to cram everything in immediately.
Wish I could rmember how many persons a square mile of mixed production could support, then we could be looking at islands, foot hills etc regions of needed size for these guys. I wouldnt have thought all of them moving into the Gryphon capital, not with the layout of the city either.
Still, Artex needs to pick up a Gryphon liason wife, but so far, not a human, unless just liason?
So everyone is silently evaluating Heidi as a candidate for Artex's next wife, right? It's not just me?
Wow! Donner party anyone?
6217701 Nope, the Donner Party involved murdering people as far as I know. The Marines just ate the ones who died naturally.
6217740 The Dinner Party was a wagon train headed to California. They got snowed in over the winter and resorted to cannibalism to survive.
6217455 Ugh, had to remind me of THAT movie . I hate that movie with a passion; love the book series, but absolutely HATE the movie. They got so many things wronge, or they just plain ignored others *sigh* .
Aaaaaaaanywho, great chapter man; powerful stuff near the end there.
I hope this ending isn't a lead up to the Marine staying in the Griffin kingdoms, being made a reservist unit for their peacekeeping efforts yes that I can see. But I believe they would want to be part of the largest human settlement established which has American citizens in it. Plus it really seems like Truthseeker was making places for them when the Bloodmages took out alot of New Humansvilles officers, so they could easily slip into filling those now empty positions.
Plus I think the Major may round on Crash Course about secrets when he finds out he and his troops will soon be able to do magic, I say soon as we don't know exactly how many times they've thrown up gold and even Crash courses group took at least a few weeks after the third time to start exhibiting abilities. That's also another reason for them not to be made a part of the Griffin kingdoms, and something to be addressed with the humans with the Diamond dogs now that I think of it, all the magic trainers specializing in humans are at New Humansville. So they would need to export teachers.
I'm just kinda wondering where and when the next group of humans are going to show up, and if they will be the group that needs to be put down, because they're a bunch of racist, xenophobic, pricks that figured out magic and they abuse it.
6218726
6218789
You both have very good questions and concerns. Nearly, if not all of them will be addressed.
6218789 Xenophobic murderers get off lightly, in Horseyland. Midnight Haze, Proud Hoof, and unnamed South American Human didn't get put down.
The way he keeps dropping a group of humans with each race in Equestria I figure it will be the group that ends up in dragon territory which will really be boned. I figure at best the dragons will ignore them, at worse see them as a new food source (or just eat them to keep them from annoying them with the any potential dragon slaying mentality they may have) or use them for cheap labor to make things for them that are difficult for adult dragons due to their size.
6218840
if you should chooose to drop another group into magical horse land how about canadian eskimos their main food source is meat and they're experts in trapping and fishing and best of all theyre hardheadded as ol hell so even if a horse demi god demand that they stop eating meat they probably wouldnt
6218988 I'm talking about some humans so evil and dark that even the natural magic just looks at them and goes, "NOPE!".
6225253
Thus far, the princesses have been approaching every antagonist as if they just need the difference between right and wrong made clear to them.
I would call them childlike, in their naivety, if they weren't actually reaching people, that way.
It would be interesting to see how they react to someone who fully understands right from wrong, and chooses to be evil.
Shitstorm adverted? Yes?
This gave ne feels. Cmon, I'm in a public place. I can't just go misty while people are watching
Sapient.
BIG difference between "sentient" and "sapient".
Even a fish is sentient.
By the very definition of sentience, all creatures that can hear, see, taste, feel, and smell (like sharks with blood, fish can "smell" what's in the water, along with most all other aquatic life) are sentient.
*Fun fact: On the opposite side of things, no living thing (including a human) can be considered entirely sentient if that creature is lacking any of the five senses I listed. "Sentience" is merely having the capacity (genetically) for all 5 senses.
"Sapient", however, means any species with intelligence and society like humans. Capable of building civilizations.
I always remember it like this:
"Humans are the only sapient life on Earth, which is why we call ourselves 'Homo Sapiens'."
7073546 so if i can't smell due to stuffy nose, im not sentient?! the horror! THE HORROR!
7073546 actually, dolphins have been officially recognised as "non-human persons".
6217455
The movie was basically the High School Musical Version of the book. Most of the events covered were there... but as Durza had aptly put it, “I expected something a bit .... more.”
