When Cinny published her first book, she hadn't expected it to be so popular or to find herself in the position of being herdmother to one of the ponies she wrote about. There are some sins a colourful hat just can't cover.
From this chapter and from No Room From Regret I gather Star is starting to grow on Cinny whether she realizes or not, seems like she thinks about her more than she thinks about Velvet at this point and seems like she actually considers spending time with her as long as Star isn't in a bad mood. Maybe she'll grow to understand what Lucent sees on Star as time goes on, maybe they both just like "bad girls" or so something. In any case I really liked this chapter, can't wait to see what happens at the Gala.
Excellent work in building tension. Definitely looking forward to the payoff at the Gala. Given the antiprophetic nature of the song, I'm guessing everything will turn out much better than Cinny is expecting. That, or she'll be the exception that proves the rule. In any case, looking forward to more.
I know I've said this before but... Poor Cinny.
